I've just spoke to Zavvi and they told me that there was an error at the warehouse. They received an e-mail yesterday telling them that there was a powercut in the warehouse and that I would receive my order on Monday as Yodel doesn't deliver on Saturdays. I was also told I could decline the order or hold onto it and for £2.70 have someone collect if from me and get a full refund.
Is there anything else I can do, like make a complaint by letter?

    Thank you

Thank for that wealdroam. As I've never written a letter of complaint in my life, apart from what has happened, is there anything else I should include?

Anything ordered over the inter-web can be rejected (at your expense) and you can ask for your money back?!.

Only after it has been delivered, before that it won't cost you anything.
The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark

This is an old post but deserves a reply.
Pensioners are not people who live on state hand-outs, most people will have earned their pensions through many years of hard work and NI contributions. Only a minority of older people will receive a pension without working. This comments shows you don't understand how it works.

    I am a pensioner !

I know that there a pensioners who have earned a lot more than me during their life time but who don't have modest private pension(s). (Some of them specifically moved jobs just to get back their "company" pension contributions) and have always lived on a monthly overdraft.

Now they have been able to claim "state handouts".

Could not agree more! Well said! Too many companies going bust without all this compensation culture!

Ah. So you believe that if a company costs you money, you should suck it up and put up with it?

That is the kind of attitude which made British Leyland the resounding success it is today.
  • Hi,

I've just had some success in using the letter templates.

I currently bought a new set of alloy wheels from alloywheels.com

I bought these on 31st May and was told that these would be delivered on Friday 8th June.

On Friday 8th June - only 3 wheels showed up (I don't have a three wheel car!). I called up Alloywheels.com and got through to a really nice customer service assistant who helped me out to track down the missing wheel. The wheel had somehow got left at the depot and was told that it would be sent out the next working day (Monday).

I had to take time off work on Monday to wait in for the delivery, and due to them not giving a specific time, I had to take the full day off for 1 wheel!

I used the letter template yesterday, emailed it to their customer services and got a reply saying that they would reimburse my delivery charge of £25 but they wouldn't do anything about the money it cost for me to take time off work as this was the delivery companies fault and not theirs.

I explained that by law the contact is between myself and the retailer, and I have no contract with the courier company, it's the retailer who has this contract.

Today I received another email stating that they will now reimburse my delivery charge of £25 and pay for 50% of my expenses to have stayed off work. I decided to accept instead of going to the trouble of a small claims court.

  • I need some help and advice. I ordered a bed from dreams and arranged delivery for 23rd June. On the morning of the delivery date I had a phone call saying that the driver had phoned in sick so no bed would be delivered! I had to ring customer services to sort it out. I rang customer services and they told me the reason they aren't delivering it is because the mattress is out of stock! I was promised a call back.

4 hours later I called them because I didn't hear anything and was then told that part of my bed was missing so that's why it wasn't delivered! And that no one was going to call me back because the certain office that needed to chase it for me was shut. I finally rearranged delivery for today 30th June and they have just turned up with the wrong bed on the van. They said there is nothing they can do for me until Monday! While this is all going on I have sent a complaint email to the CEO of dreams and have not had a response.

I know they are in breach of their contract and I have documentation stating delivery was supposed to be the 23rd June, and I know they are In breach of the Sales of Goods acts 1979!

Any help on how to get compensation or any help with...well anything really would be grateful as I have just about had enough!

    Thank you!
