Delivery rights discussion

Hi, wanting some advice regarding my rights. I ordered a Camera from Jessops and expected it to be delivered to my work address on the Thursday... It wasn't.
I rung them up at around 4pm on the Thursday to be told that the order wasn't dispatched (not really a problem) however when I asked what time of day it was likely to be delivered to my work (I had a half day on Friday) I was told it was being delivered to my HOME address.
I had my order confirmation in front of me and it clearly stated delivery to my Work address but the guy on the phone was insistent that the only address they had on record and therefore the address for delivery was my Home address.
I needed the camera for some photography that weekend so couldn't afford to miss the delivery and arrange. As such my partner took the day off work to sit in on the delivery.
The camera ended up being delivered to Work as per the written Order Confirmation so my partner took the day off entirely unnecessarily.

Do I have a right of recourse?
like what?0 -
Well, I was thinking reimbursement (or part) for my partners loss of earnings. I've been offered 40 free prints (£0.05 each = £2.00 value) as a goodwill gesture which is pretty laughable.
well lets be honest
you are highly unlikely to get that
Its a mistake
you got your goods as ordered and as reqiuested to your work address.
they dont have to give you anything.
so propose a realistic request and put it forward.
whether that be a discount on another order (usually easier to get)
a freebie item (bit harder)
part refund etc0 -
Although I have found Hermes to be reliable in delivering and collecting, I did spot our local lad leaving a package on a neighbour's doorstep. On getting no reply, he put a card through the letterbox and started back to the van with the parcel, but then appeared to have second thoughts.
The Royal Mail once left a package for me on the back doorstep (which is actually the entrance to another flat). By the time I discovered it next day, it had been opened and the contents thoroughly inspected. I suppose I should be thankful that nothing had been taken, nor had it rained.0 -
Hiya
The Scottish newspaper the Sunday Post is looking for success stories in Scotland of people who've successfully claimed for failed delivery.
If you would like to chat to them, please private message me with your name and phone number.
Thanks very much

Does anyone know if this also applies to appointments with repair people, engineers, etc? I have washing machine insurance and the repair engineer didn't turn up when meant to and I had to take time off work.0

I exploit couriers by sending cheaply but there is another side to it!
Couriers from Yodel or Hermes are paid next to nothing for drop-off or collection, but somehow it is thought to be their fault that people do not have sensible porches or bins to leave parcels in. The same applies to people on a delivery round who are expected to walk up each garden path, maybe stoop for a dysfunctional letterbox, and walk back again.
At the same time that some of us don't care or consider the costs of delivering to us, we want a cheap deal as customers and companies like Yodel and Hermes will happily under-quote so that eventually some of their staff can't cope or get a bit cynical. If there's a complaint the company blaims the most junior person involved & pretend it isn't the customer's fault for paying too little, or the company's fault for quoting too little: there is no way a courier can manage London traffic jams or Scottish Highland distances and still get the job done.
I suggest a reasonableness campaign. Anyone who wants a parcel should suggest a safe place to leave it if at all possible, get the largest possible letterbox, and mail order companies should ask their customers to do both of these things while packing in letterbox-sized envelopes where possible. I think the vast majority of problems would be solved!0 -
If its a maintstream courier - probably. It doesn't really make much sense does it ? when they have to go back with the parcel another day.
It's late in the afternoon. The driver is 30 miles from home and the last remaining customer is 50 odd miles in the other direction.
How many times do we know of the drivers pretending to have tried to deliver the package so that they can get off home early? I know that it happens a lot and living in a remote rural area on the Llyn it's not uncommon.
How do we know this? Some of the courier drivers, who leave the companies, tell us so. And it's not the drivers; the culture is installed in them from the delivery company themselves.0
