Delivery rights discussion

Maybe if you made it easier for the courier to identify your property better, it would help. One of the worse things that would drive me up the wall, when I was helping out my friend, was people who didn't put the name of their house outside their property, or decided to change the house name without telling anyone. One person in particular, who said that they changed the name of their house, because they wanted to screw around with Royal Mail. But they still ordered stuff in the old name of the house. Then there are the ones who live in houses down anonymous lanes, off the main roads. They refuse to make any indication that any houses exist down the lanes, so no one knows they are there.
Is your house's name plate next to the cottage, making it look like that is the actual house?
I know you have made some good points, however we've lived at this address for 27 years without ever changing the name; the name plate isn't next to said cottage; it isn't an anonymous lane but a driveway; and every other delivery company over the years, except Hermes, seems to have made it to our actual house...0 -
I have just spent £300 on a Bose Speaker for my husbands surprise Christmas present. It was delivered on time - but in the original Bose packaging with shipping sticker - so as my husband was home - he now knows exactly what he has for Christmas and has nothing to open from me. Gutted. I spend months researching this and getting the best deal.
I bought this online and have never bought any product online which arrives without exterior packaging. We are both so disappointed as already we don't get to spend Christmas together as he works for the emergency services - so we had hoped we could have one lovely evening exchanging our gifts - now I don't even have that. Thanks Bose :-(0 -
For a comparatively luxury product like that, I would wrap it in something like black cling film before shipping it by a common carrier, especially at this time of year, whem the "have nots" get their noses rubbed in it.0

my problem at present is as follows
i ordered a dvd set box from amazon which came promptly BUT on most dvds (multiple discs per case)the internal hinges are broken .so i can return the damaged item and print a lable and take it to the post office. amazon says in its return rules that it compensates up to £1.24 postage cost but if the item gets lost(which has happened before with royal mail) i will be charged for the replacement item again(£50). royal mail only pays a few stamps compensation. or i could take out extra insurance for £6.40 with royal mail for up to £ 100 value compensation-so if the item doesn't get lost i have paid an extra £6.40--i have kept the damaged item sofar
.surely the whole point of paying the royal mail the normal postage cost should make them liable for full monetary compensation in case of them failing to deliver.
That's currently £46.00.
Hardly "only a few stamps", don't you think?
That appears to be just £4 under your parcel's value.0 -
Hi I ordered an item from Ideal World in October, to be sent to Southern Ireland. They said to allow 10 days, which I did. I then emailed them to find out where the item was. Subsequently had a phone call asking for details of the address, the item was in Ireland waiting delivery. I gave all the info again and also a phone number of where it was going. I also rechecked on the website the info was correct. Next email I sent asking again where the item was to be told it had been returned, by the courier. I was asked if I wanted to reorder or have a refund, by this time was totally fed up with it. asked for a refund, citing what is the point of reordering it if the courier can't deliver in the first place. Got a refund I believe into my credit card account, minus the postage! So started up another lot of emails, all acknowledged etc, one saying how sorry they were and taking my complaint seriously etc. and that a refund of the item had taken place, but no mention of the postage. Surely if an item is obviously not delivered in the first place then why should I pay postage. Under the distance selling rules we have 7 days from receipt to reject, but then you have to receive it in the first place. What should i do now?0

DSR states that the consumer can cancel an order* for a FULL refund (including delivery postage). Retailer CANNOT refuse to reimburse the delivery costs, but may charge returns costs (not relevant if the item has not been delivered). Nor can the retailer charge a restocking fee.
However since this is delivery to a Republic of Ireland address I don't know if UK DSR are still relevant.
* subject to certain exclusions.0 -
They double the postage to Ireland.
A couple of years ago my relative had an item delivered from same shopping channel. Item was faulty and eventually was returned, again a problem with the courier. They managed to deliver it but didn't seem to be able to collect it! An offer of a replacement was made, but again the trouble getting the item collected must of taken about 2 months from start to finish, so decision not to replace. A full refund was made.0 -
They missed a boiler service appointment.
I ended up getting £90 compensation for the failed appointment.
They dont tell you this so if they miss they have to pay.!!!0 -

It doesn't mater whether the item is received or not. The rules are that you have up to the seventh working day from the day after delivery, to reject the item to get a full refund, including postage. So, if the the item takes two weeks to arrive, you can cancel and claim your DSR rights, during those two weeks and you have an additional seven working days, after the date of arrival, to further consider your purchase. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -

It is not "UK" DSRs, it is EU DSRs. Therefore, the regulations apply. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0
