What do NTL class as heavy use? by exceeding 1 Gig Download a day by how much and do NTL cap uploads?. Last question when are NTL going to try to enforce this?0
-
With regard to the new speed for NTL, I was on the 1.5 Megabit package which was fine for my needs. 3Mb is great but I don't need the speed and am considering downgrading to the 2Mb package (which is still faster than I was on 2 weeks ago) and saving over £10 per month. Has anyone done this? Are NTL agreeable?0

UTOPIA
I have just got off the phone to NTL (problems with their billing system) and have been upgraded to the 1Gb from 300Kb.
I asked about the capping and was told that it would be unmonitored until September.
I dare say by September, speeds and value will have increased by so much that it would be bad business to impose a limit as low as 3Gb a month!
also, I test my line speed on 2 different sites quite often, one always came up with around 310Kb the other always about 150Kb.
I have now tried them and the first has come up as 1236.4Kb, the other came in at 146 still???????
I'm obviously doing something wrong with the 2nd one.
They are
http://specials.zdnet.co.uk/misc/band-test/speedtest50.html (now showing 4080Kb)
and
http://www.numion.com/yourspeed/ (using a 30 second check for worldwide web pages)
Can anyone see why the big difference???
what sites do others use to test BB speed?Anything I write is based on my opinion only. Before acting upon any advice from anyone on a forum further professional advice should be sought.0 -
I have just called and upgraded my 750k to 2mb and its speedy now.
I asked about download caps and i was informed that there wernt any at all, and we do a lot of downloading so i stipulated that i didnt want to be upgraded if they were gonna cap it. she assured me that they wouldnt. so i am happy and speedy0 -

I've just used both sites, and they are showing my 2Mb running at 2.25 on one, and 2.5 on the other. V. little difference there.
You could also try
test my speed or
pcpitstop test
You'll have to expect differing results, due to server physical distance, and internet traffic. These will affect any results.I haven't been asked to tell you that I'm the Board Drunk for this board. i have 300k bb so all i have to do is ring them up or apply online to upgrade to 1mb? What is this thing about download restrictions, what are they at the moment? Also do i have to pay anything extra?
Just want to make sure before i upgrade.

stuartw101, please read the first post in this thread thoroughly, it has all the information you want to know. The only addendum would be that ntl will not be monitoring or restricting usage until September.
