    Any more advice guys?
You have really cocked up to be fair.

You parked it on the road without insurance (illegal).
You didn't update your details after moving address (illegal).
Now you've let the tax run out and it's still on the road (illegal).

Get the car off the road straight away because it'll be clamped or towed if it is discovered, then SORN it. Update your details with the DVLA then expect a fine (or fines) to possibly / probably catch up with you.

You haven't been caught yet though.
    Just get shot of it.

GEt it re-insured and re-taxed ASAP (you have 5 days grace or so to re-tax it).
That's if you intend to keep it.
If not, get a scrap man to collect it and send off the scrapped section of the V5.

I have totally cocked up, although not deliberately and I would never actually drive an illegal vehicle.

What kind of fines can I expect?

Tax has just run out on Friday.

As long as you have not been spotted by DVLA clampers/the police/council wardens, since Saturday...... then you are going to be OK

What you need to do is move the car off road NOW

If you can't do that you will have to get it insured NOW so that you can buy a new tax disc for it, ASSUMING it has a valid MOT.

If it doesn't have a valid MOT you need to get one FAST....OR take it off road NOW and declare it SORN.

If you choose to store it off road then you need to get a V890 and declare it SORN from 30/09/2011, sign it and send it in the post tomorrow.

    Then you won't get
    a £80 failure to tax/SORN fine
    £100 continuous insurance fine
Possible ticket and court case for having no tax & insurance

If you have nowhere to store it you need to get rid of it ASAP, scrap it or whatever, a scrappy will collect it from you.... You should still complete a V890 and send it off. As soon as you know it will be collected. - If you do it before collection you will be declaring SORN on a vehicle still on the highway which carries a higher penalty. If you get rid of it fast and THEN send off a backdated V890, as far as I know you will be breaking no laws except a false declaration that you are saying it has been off road for the last 2 - 3 days that's not going to be a problem as long as it has not been spotted and reported during those 2 - 3 days.

    I can't find the vehicle's log book

You best get searching as without it, you can't scrap the car so best reinsure & tax it.

She does not have 5 days grace, not in this scenario.

If she can store it off road , she does have 14 days to tax & probably until the end of this month to either tax it or declare it SORN if leaving it that long, she should "declare SORN" by phoning up near the end of this month and chase up a previous SORN declaration which appears to have gone missing in the post ;)
If chooses to tax it within this month, that can be done at any point up until the end of this month at a PO and ask for the disc to be valid for the month of October not starting from November. However with the new continuous insurance thing, I would choose to tax it ASAP and not leave it longer than necessary.
