Tbh, I'd not even 'move it round the corner'. You're bound to be seen by a copper who will then actually do you for a host of traffic offences.
It's already in the car park, thankfully. But she should have SORNED online by now .... and got an email confirmation.
Have you SORN online? did they give the option to put a date of off road since 30/09/2011 ??? Have you looked past step 1 to see if the date option is given?
If you want to go down the insurance/change of address route, make sure you get policy that you can cancel with minimum costs. And you won't be able to use any no claims discount, because this will be a second policy. You may be able to talk to your current insurer and ask them to put it on as a second car on temporary cover. Then you won't have MOT, which is not really a big deal.
You could speed up the change of address thing by going in person to your nearest DVLA office.
What ever you do, you need to SORN it now from the 30/09/11.0 -
I SORNED it online. It automatically gave me the date of 1/10 which I guess is right as it was taxed up to and including 30/9.
The wretched thing won't start (had to get bin men to push me off road) so I think scrapping it is best option.
From what I've Googled I don't think you do need V5 to do this see here: http://www.recycleacar.com/faqs0 -
You realy should not be trusted with a car.
- Failing to inform of address change
- Expired MOT
- Expired Tax
- No Insurance
Having one of those problems could be explained as careless but having all four is just plain stupid.
Personally I hope they find out and give you a hefty fine.0 -
That's why if I were you I would get a scrap man to come collect your car. Using the current V5C and keep section 9 sending it off to the DVLA.
Scrap man booked for 10.30am tomorrow. Says doesn't matter that V5 has old address.
Do you still have access to the post at the old address?
Because all that will be sent there will be the confirmation of SORN and confirmation of passing to a motor trader. The SORN letter does not matter (if you don't recieve it) if you SORN online, then you get an email confirmation you can keep for about a year. The change of ownership letter will not matter (if you don't recieve it) as long as you phone up DVLA after 4 weeks to confirm the car is no longer registered in your name. Keep the reciept from the scrap man.
I guess I could knock on the door and see if they've had any post for me though I imagin they would have binned it or RTS by now. I could give them SAE with new adddress to forward anything that comes over next few weeks.
Job done, the only problem is the cont insurance charge of £100 which you may already have been charged with. You need to ask DVLA about that one. I would not admit that it was parked on the highway though for the last 2 - 3 months.[/QUOTE]
What would I say to DVLA though? Presumably not "My car's been uninsured for the past few months and I don't know if you've tried to contact me about it because I have totally failed to keep you updated with my current address?!"0 -

Yes, I know I've been very stupid but when I was actually using it I always made sure it was legal in every way. I would never, ever dream of driving an untaxed, unmotd or uninsured vehicle.0 -

Sounds like it is all sorted out now so hope you get a bit of cash off the scrap man.
5t.What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -
Surely any reputable scrap dealer that's going to give you a certificate of destruction needs to check the V5?
Without a CoD you have no guarantee that this mess goes away by scrapping the car.
The guy didn't speak English, the car didn't have any id apart from a V5c which he simply took and signed the correct section.
The DVLA have still accepted that he collected the correct vehicle and that it no longer exists.0 -
I plucked up the courage to ring DVLA about continuous insurance and no action has been taken. (Hugely relieved)
It has no tax, MOT or insurance. It's declared SORN although I am a little dubious about how "safe"/legal my off road place is.
I have a V5 with the old address.
Scrap man will give me £100 for it. I could probably get more for it another way but my main priority it is be as legal as I can as quickly as I can. I feel I have been very stupid and very lucky and I want to put it right ASAP.
Think 'm going to send off V5 in the morning to regist it to current address. That way I can't be fined for failure to inform DVLA and at least in unlucky event I get caught before selling it at least I'll be aware of it.
Thanks so much for holding my hand over this!0 -
The scrap man will sign the V5c. Don't complicate things by changing addresses0
-
But why not? If they send a letter to old address as confirmation I run the risk it could be sent back RTS then theoretically I could be done for not informing them of new address.0
