    Does it have MOT?
Do you have the tax disc reminder V11 I think
Do you have anywhere Off road to store it immediately?
  • Would it be really stupid to rinfg DVLA & say I sent off change of address a while back but haven't received anything in post?

Otherwise I'm gong to have to inform them of change of address anyway before I dispose of the car.

I gather there is a massive fine for reporting SORN if it's on the road so I don't think lying about it being off road for a few days is a good plan.

    please answer Post # 22

It's a perfectly reasonable plan if you can get it off road tonight. Off road for the purposes of SORN can include car parks. No one will have seen it today or yesterday.

If you don't want to do take it off road you only have one option .... INSURE IT tomorrow and get a new tax disc, use a high street broker or an online and attempt to print off an certificate and use that in a post office. They may not accept a printed certificate.

Choose an insurer with a no fee for cancellation within 14 days and a full refund.,... they do exist, but otherwise go for the best cancellation feees you can get and that means avoid Swinton .

GEt it re-insured and re-taxed ASAP (you have 5 days grace or so to re-tax it).
That's if you intend to keep it.
If not, get a scrap man to collect it and send off the scrapped section of the V5.

Not so. You have no period of grace to retax the vehicle. The only leeway the DVLA allow is the time it takes from taxing online to receiving the tax disc. The five days grace is if you have applied to retax the vehicle before the old licence expires.

The system isn't as automatic as you think. It's only the civil enforcement who'd give you a ticket for non display rather than it not being taxed.

    Sorry.

    MOT has expired.

    No V11

Yes there's a communal car park place nearby. Can't move it til the morning now though.

Then if I were you, I would move it to that car park fast.
Send off a V890 SORN dated from 30/09/2011

Then arrange to have collected by a scrap man fast. You will need to find the V5C to do this. Scrap man should give you at least £100 for it.
You still need insurance in a car park, but it is very unlikely to be a problem if it's only a few days.

You need to do the SORN from 30/09/2011 other wise you could get fines for having no SORN and no tax and no insurance for these last 2 days.

Doing these steps will avoid you all of the automatic fines.

    When did you change address?
Do you still go to that old address i.e, it might be your parents house etc...

If you still go to the old address, just don't bother telling DVLA of any change.

If you don't use/have access to the old address anymore then it may become a bit more complex, and you could just leave the address as it is or phone DVLA for advice on how to scrap car without having to wait 6 weeks for a new v5 to arrive...

Or did you make up the bit about the change of address just because you want a shiny new V5C free of charge? This won't work, in order to get a free one for change of address you HAVE to supply the old one. Turn your house upside down and find it.

I hope I have helped you, I have to go now.

Wish I had made up change of address bit, that would simplify things and I'd know whether or not I've already been sent a fine for the insurance.

Will do backdated SORN to 30/9 but it doesn't get over lack of insurance since June, does it?
