That's not really going to help, is it?

In a way I don't mind putting my hand up to insurance thing but I think I am much more worried about the penalty for not informing DVLC about change of address.

Just scrap it, the scrap man won't even check the V5c.
  • Yes but what about the penalty for continuous insurance?

Could I ring DVLC pleading ignorance, say I've only just found out that car should be insured and is not and that I am away from home or having problem with my post so would not have any received letters they may have sent?

You phone dvla give your details and old address and ask them if there has been a cont ins fine as you didn't hear anything, and you are SORNing the vehicle now and intend to scrap it.

If no fine issued, ask them will I get fined? see what they say.

    Then say goodbye

Scrap the car send off paperwork

Depending on what they said about a fine, phone them up after scrapping and say
"you know I phoned you about that cont insurance fine, and you said XXXXX, well I just wanted you to know that I have actually changed my address now, so any correspondence to me in the future should go to this address xxxx Thanks."

Forget continuous insurance. If, as is likely, where the car is now is classed as the public highway. You have no insurance - 6 points + fine

Scrap it and send off the form.
  • How do I find a scrap man?

Surely any reputable scrap dealer that's going to give you a certificate of destruction needs to check the V5?

Without a CoD you have no guarantee that this mess goes away by scrapping the car.
  • I think the only thing I can do is insure it, declare it SORN and apply for a new V5 for new address at the same time by post .

    You've had a whole day.
Why isn't your old car cube shaped already?

If you scrap it now, and get proof that it has been scrapped, I really can't see you having further bother. The systems aren't even in place to auto-fine for insurance yet.
Stop being paralysed by fear about what might happen, and get rid of the car!

And to find a scrap man you type 'scrap metal dealer near XXX' where XXX is where you live (don't type XXX into google, it generally leads to unpleasant discoveries) and then phone the number. Ask them if they can collect a scrap car and ask them how much they will pay. If they can't ,phone another one. You will take a hit on price but it avoids you comitting really serious traffic offences.
Tbh, I'd not even 'move it round the corner'. You're bound to be seen by a copper who will then actually do you for a host of traffic offences.

I've already covered this, Cont insurance fine ONLY go out to people who have a car which is taxed or untaxed and there is no insurance on it except if it is SORN , if SORN there is no cont ins fine.

It is perfectly legitimate for the purposes of SORN to be in a car park. Because they are not "a road".

On seperate legislation you do need MOT & insurance to be in a car park (I told the OP about this) therfore it is important to not be there for long without insurance, and MOT.

Car parks are not classed as "Public Highway", they are classed as "a Public Place" - A public place that is NOT a road.
