i meant a very nominal amount and certainly not market rates. i was thinking a tenner a week or something like that.

if i had a girlfriend living with me, i certainly wouldnt be penalised for claiming would i?

Your gf's income would be counted for benefit purposes.

    (Cross posted!)
  • You wouldn't be penalised, no. But her earnings would be taken into account and that is what you are trying to avoid.

not if i classed her as a tenant/lodger.

girlfriend can be used in the very loosest sense of the word.

like i said would i be commiting fraud if i did the same thing and i had a girlfriend in the house?

Almost certainly, yes. It's all about "living together AS man and wife" ie if your actions are, for all practical purposes, those of a man and a wife living together. They will look at all sorts of things, including your holiday arrangements.

You will be living together AND holidaying together. What will you be doing to demonstrate that you are NOT living together as man and wife (with your wife)?

neither contributing to each others outgoings.

    not sharing a bed.

you mean force my ex partner to pay?

she wouldnt - simple as that.

try and throw her out - she may have certain rights to remain, no?
Why would it be forced for her to pay her rent?

You said you would "Rent" Not allow her to live for free?
Life is short, smile while you still have teeth :D

And, as you are requesting public money, it will be THEIR definition which decides if you get it. Unless you can provide EVIDENCE to contradict it.

and why should i charge anyone any money to live in my own home?

why should the tax payer pay your mortgage when you could charge rent to cover it?

A tenant/ lodger would have to pay a market rent to be seen as such.

Moving onto a better place...Ciao
  • Not really a good idea to have your ex renting a room if she doesn't contribute anything now.

DWP will be very interested in you living with your ex, especially if your only asking for "a tenner". I also assume that if what you have said about your wife is true, that she'll be out of there in a flash and putting in a claim for whatever she can get from you.

Job centre is also not geared to finding jobs for people expecting £30k. You need to look for your own job.

Your main problem seems to be with your incomings and outgoings. You must be spending more than you are claiming on here if you consider yourself "screwed" without your parent's contribution. Go over to debt free wannabe and post a full SOA.
