benefits when partner is working

As all the regulars on here know this is not the right forum to voice opinions. No-one knows the situation yet everyone wants their twopenn'orth.
It is fact that some people do separate and live in the under the same roof for all sorts of reasons. This doesn't mean they still live in the same household for benefit purposes.
If this happens and one of the couple claims benefits then this claimant WILL be visited by someone from the Jobcentre who will ask a myriad of questions about the situation. They will report back and the facts will be considered by a Decision Maker as to whether they are now single or living together as husband and wife/civil partners.
If and I do mean if the Jobcentre agrees it is a genuine claim if you do rent a room to her then this will be classed as income and your JSA reduced accordingly.
thank you. at least you see it dispassionately.
shame on those who have used my marital difficulties to construe some kind of elaborate benefit scam deceiving the taxpayer.
shame on those who have been egging on my wife in her attempts to get a free ride in my own home.
and shame on those who believe i should be working in tescos despite the fact that i have a private mortgage insurance which i paid for from my own pocket.0 -

No they don't but I think you have a few hurdles to jump before you even need consider this. Initially it will be very hard to convince them you are not living together as husband and wife.
A lot of the posters on here should be reported for their comments. It's already been stated by the forums board that the purpose of this is to give help where it's requested. So much time is spent monitoring this particular board I believe it won't be long before it's closed down. That would be a terrible shame as a lot of good advice is given here.I'll get you, my pretty, and your little dog too!0 -
are you taking the mickey, your wife earns three times what i earn and your think your in trouble with mrp ?
i dont claim benefits, i get on with my job and im lucky to have a job, there are jobs out there if you change your perspective and you dont want to work in a shop or a lower paid profession ? id rather do that than live on benefits

lets say they do accept we are living as flat-sharers rather than man and wife and the mortgage protection is still in place and i have no savings and im out of contribution based job seekers.
and im charging my ex partner nominal rent every week.
could you tell me what benefits i would be entitled to then?0 -
As I said earlier it would be JSA income based but they would take into consideration any rental income (less any disregard) depending if she was classed as a lodger or a tenant. You should also be entitled to council tax benefit - also might be a non-dependant deduction. Without full details no-one can give you a definitive answer. Put the various scenarios in 'entitled to' website. It should give you an answer about both tenant and lodger income.I'll get you, my pretty, and your little dog too!0

If, as you would claim, her rent is a commercial arrangement then it will be assumed that you are charging a commercial rent, ie the going rate. You may choose to charge her less, but they will assume market rents. Otherwise it may look as if it is just a ploy to maximise your yield from any suckling at the taxpayer teat you may wish to do, and I'm sure that's not the case.0 -

I think pointing out the many pitfalls and possible consequences of this insane proposal IS helpful.0
