Just a little tip re freezing milk... I decant milk into the plastic ice cube bags, the ones where you pop the cubes out.
I find this great when you just need enough for tea or coffee. A couple of minutes in a cup and it's ready for use . Or a few seconds in MW. Give it a stir before adding.
I freeze milk in small containers as well. I find the large cartons need to be used up quick after defrosting, and theres only me here at times, so it works for me!0 -
we've just used 7L of milk in 2 days... I can't fathom that one day we won't use that much.. :eek:LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0

I now have to find a decent sized cream fleece blanket cheap as I am making a new home 'cake' (similar to the nappy cake idea with towels/fleeces as the icing), with lots of new home goodies buried inside and a bottle of wine in the centre. This is for my OH's niece who is getting a flat in a few weeks.
So I need to get:-
safety pins
pegs
clothes line
sewing kit
tea lights
candle lighter
hand soap
bottle of rose
rubber gloves
hand cream
cloths
cream fleece
hand towels
all purpose cleaner (Stardrops, it has to be)
nail brush
all hidden in a fake cake. Where would be cheapest to get everything? Home bargains, Tesco?
p.s. I'm on a tight budget.....lots of interviews next week so keep your fingers crossed for me please!
What a great idea! If you're doing a storage box to put the stuff in & decorate, MrM had large square ones for £2.60 the other week (I got 1 for artisan bread)Got DS his winter nursery trousers today, 4 pairs, £4 each. They are enormous lol. Hope he puts on some weight as they just slide down his hips. Still, when it's cold I'll put him long sleeve thermals on, so hopefully something for the waistband to grip...
Also got dd some warm fleece lined joggers. Look very cute...
I got braces for DS1 though I never saw any for DS2 - they were a godsend.unixgirluk wrote: »shoewheel http://rakkudesigns.com/
How sad am I - I looked a the link & thought the children's 1 would be great for preschool!0 -
Halfcost have the insulating curtains on 4 for 3 now (not many left though) so I've ordered some for DD. If she doesn't like the tinfoil look she can sort something else out herself.0

That's SUCH a lovely idea :T
I agree with others - 99p store/poundland/Wilkinsons are good for cheaply priced household stuff.
Fingers crossed

I'm making them into a 'cake'. I make nappy cakes so this is similar.
I'll let you know how I get on, going to buy the bits and pieces tomorrow. Might not get a chance to put it together this week with my interviews but will let everyone know how I get on.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. You can enjoy it even if you don't understand it and too much can give you a headache the next day J0 -
i don't normally list specific ebay sellers for fear of someone thinking it's my account (i don't sell anything i just buy
) but on my search for some cheap fleeces to line my curtains in matching colours i found this seller with 100% feedback, i bought two fleeces then started milling around and saw quite a few things for winter so i thought i'd share
i have this set to cheapest first so if you go down about halfway down the page you start seeing flannelette pillow cases and they have quite a few fleeces going cheap (i can't get mine delivered to my tescos so that deal was expensive for me plus i couldn't pick my colours) anyway worth looking
http://stores.ebay.co.uk/aa-clearance/_i.html?rt=nc&_sid=591827581&_trksid=p4634.c0.m14&_sop=2&_sc=1
and again, i have nothing to do with this seller other than buying a few fleeces from them0 -
I've just come back from 2 weeks in a hot, sunny place to what passes for a Scottish summer. I have my warmest PJs and slipper socks on, my slanket is out of its summer hiding place and I'm on my 3rd cup of tea. Can it only be a day ago when I was too warm to sleep and couldn't drink enough water?
It has prompted me to get a move on with the winter preparations. A friend of mine was kind enough to assemble my new bedroom furniture while I was away (one less thing for me to do) and so first thing will be a sort through all of my clothes before putting them away - and making a list of what I need for the winter as I go along. Thanks for all the recent website recommendations etc.0 -
Morning Preppers!
I have just had my first load of winter fuel (coal and logs) delivered on what is expected to be the hottest day of the year so far in Northampton :rotfl:.... if I'd known that would happen, I'd have ordered it 3 months ago! Only joking, I love the sun but not the heat so I'm off to bed for a couple of hours:shhh: (I am allowed as I did a 2am  airport run today and am cream-crackered). I have also started to knit a pair of 95% wool socks while waiting for the delivery...I needed something to concentrate on as anything else would have sent me to sleep!
Happy Prepping,
Alice

A friend came round yesterday and was impressed with the tin foil curtains and asked me to order her a couple so I took advantage of their four for the price of three and ordered myself some more as well ( an we both get them reduced a bit) as I have door to kitchen into hall that is always left open but because of dogs back door is kept open 99% of the year during the time we are up so they can come and go and means cold air gets in of course so plan to put one up at doorway into hall, another at first back door ( I have what was the original back door still in place but when you go through that you are in a tiny square hall where the downstairs toilet is which used to be outside the house and then also the main back door) and then one on the back door itself - so three curtains hanging at each of the doorways I hope will help keep the heat loose down and cold out a bit more. Might not be great things of beauty but light enough to let the dogs and us pass through easy enough.
We don't have back door wide opened in winter but just enough for dogs to get in and out as with me spending so much time in bed I cannot always get down to let them out quickly enough and as they are getting older accidents are happening so we are spending a fortune over heat being wasted. Only when it really gets bitter is is closed, last winter that only happened about a dozen times. I think there were 7 left after I did my order.
Well done Alice on getting your fuel supply in now you will be glad in the winter when prices soar and deliveries are held up due to bad weather.Need to get back to getting finances under control now kin kid at uni as savings are zilch
