... the reason I am posting is I thought of this thread while browsing the Halfcost website & came across this-

Thanks for that. I'm wondering if the foil blankets would work the same if you use them as a layer between curtain and lining. I have a couple left over after lining radiators, might try one at the coldest door this winter, it really only needs to cover the glass so wouldn't matter if its not full size
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D

the space blankets do work but they are fiddly to deal with and tear very easily. i safety pinned mine to my curtains last year... word of warning they are very very noisy!

in the end we weren't prepared to put up with the noise in the bedroom so we just left the wooly blankets attached to the curtains but removed the space blankets

now in the living room, hall, kitchen, around doors etc it would be fine as you wouldn't be hearing them crinkle much (sadly the only place for our beds is by the windows!) or if you don't have to have your bed by the window then that would work too

if i did it again i'd use some tape folded over the edges then pin them through the tape to the curtains, less likely to tear that way

Confuzzled thank you so much for the idea about cherry stones, will definitely be looking into this.

Also to first time buyers of the flannelette sheets, I brought myself a sheet and duvet cover/ pillow cases last year when they were BOGOF and low price - I loved them so much that I really didn't want to change my covers to summer bedding. I have kept one pillow case on all year because i love the softness of it.

I am gutted I missed the offer this time round as it is definitely work keeping spares! I am a complete convert!

    Winter prep -
We finally saved enough to get our boiler serviced so will be booking that over the next week or 2.

I have washed half the sofa cushion covers and then it rained so I am hoping to get the other half washed tomorrow as I really want these to be aired on the washing line.

We have begun or Autumn clean early because everything seems to be taking longer at the moment.

We have de cluttered and I have a pile of stuff to go on eBay.

I have brought roughly half of the Christmas presents.

I still have a fair bit to do but I am doing a certain amount each week.

    Need:
    Buy winter boots for hubby
Buy both of us new trainers
    get the boiler serviced
    completely autumn clean
seal the laminate flooring in the master bedroom
build up a food stock (I have absolutely nothing!!)
    build up medicine cabinet
    iron the flannelette covers
change the bedding to winter bedding
get a snowsuit for the baby
    buy 2 hot water bottles
    buy hand warmers
    buy foldable shovel
    make up car kit
    stock up on dog food
    finish christmas shopping
    stock up on nappies/formula etc
get blackout blind & curtains for nursery
    cut back the garden
    cover outside tap
buy a light bulb for the newly acquired little lamp
    buy a dog bed
buy a few more fleece blankets for the sofa
get an "old fashioned kettle" (one I can use on the gas hob)
    get another wind up torch
    get a wind up radio
    store some water
    de icer spray
a couple of zip up jumpers/fleeces for me

I think thats everything, thankfully we did so much last year that doesn't need re doing :)
Everything is always better after a cup of tea

I was wondering the same thing! Seems like a great idea but I hadn't realised they would be noisy :o

i bought one of those last time i ordered for them for my daughter for a birthday present, i had something similar when i was a child and i loved it i think she will too and you can't beat it at that price

picked up a few other things, thanks to, peri was it? that mentioned those insulated drapes bought two to use with my very big living room window curtains...if they aren't good or i can't stand the look i'll just use them as very large space blankets and shove them in with the camping gear

funny thing when i was shopping through all their delightfully odd products... found a multi grip tool that i've been needing for some time for opening jars. after about 15 years of carpal tunnel i've no strength left in my hands for things like that...only a £1 and buy one get one free too, yay

so i look on the basket page and it keeps coming up at black bra strap sparkles so i dumped it and tried again and yep same thing... how sad is it that i was more worried about getting bra strap sparkles than a gripper to open jars and i'm only in my early 40's :rotfl:

turns out at the confirmation page it has the right details so they ARE grippers but wow, makes me feel old, but at least i'm laughing about it :p

Just got 3 of the insulator curtain things and also 3 white cellular blankets for baby, I had a couple before and they were nice and snug for wee ones.
