I have a few of those frilly ribbon scarves but this is my first proper one! I feel very practical but the housework has suffered.
Decided that this was a good first knitting project! It is wool that you just want to squish!0 -

Also - thank you for the suggestion of the hotties but unfortunately most of those contain lavender and I am allergicEverything is always better after a cup of tea0 -

Hi spikyhedgehog
Just wanted to say that the tripp trapps are worth the money, i have 1 each for dd and ds and they were expensive but dd had hers from around 2 and is 8 now and still uses it, ds has had his from weaning and is fast approaching 5. The paint has chipped all over though but they are nice and sturdy and so easy to clean, we have loads of life left in them yet.
Thank you, Sirens, that's good to know! The nearest 1 on ebay is currently at £10, but with 5 days left, & is 55 miles away. As I don't drive, I'd have to give someone petrol money to get it & google maps suggests it would be £13 petrol 1 way. I put it on my watch list & still keep looking.chirpychick wrote: »I just have to share this!

congrats on the ebay win, i was chuffed to bits when last year i managed to get a table for a fiver plus £7.50 delivery, amazing what bargains can be had and clever you using your voucher... i used mine towards the excalibur dehydrator i've been drooling over for years :T
i too am allergic to lavender, i've never met anyone else that was so i feel for you, i really do
a few years ago i bought dried cherry stones off of ebay, they sold them in various sized bags but my main reason for buying these was that it clearly stated they are not scented! now they DO have a faint smell at first (goes away after a few times being nuked in the microwave) and i admit it's not my fav, it was a bit strong when i first got them so i let them sit by an open window for a few days, but the important thing is, they don't have lavender in them and work well. i just use old wooly socks but something more permanent could be made
i used old rice socks for years but i'm a convert to the cherry stones now, whilst the stones don't seem to hold their heat quite as well they also won't give me a blister on my lower back (where i used them most) as they don't get quite so hot. i had a horrible bother with blistering once from 2nd degree burns so i'm quite careful now.
also rice breaks up into smaller and smaller pieces that eventually work their way free of the sock, these are big enough that that just won't happen unless it's a big hole.
if you do decide to make one with cherry stones i'd recommend trying it for a few minutes and see if it's warm enough then adjust from there. i found the first few times it didn't seem to get hot enough, at the time i expected it to be and it was a bit moist, i think there is a tiny bit of residual moisture that needs to be dried off, probably picks some up from the room it's stored in
after a few times nuking it it cooked in the time frame i expected so the first few times you may need to cook it longer but then lower your timing by say 30 seconds or so. once you burn the cherry stones the first time (this applies to rice too) it quickly degrades from there. you can still use them but it seems like they start to burn at lower and lower amounts of time in the microwave once they have been even lightly burnt so slow and steady til you find your optimum time is the key
also wait til it's cool before warming it up again, if it's still reasonably warm and you nuke it again you risk burning it, if you MUST warm it again before it's cool then do it for less time, keep an eye on it
i have chronic lower back pain and work from home mainly at my computer so i've tried a fair few things to help with that and these are good once you get the knack of them0 -
I make 'warmies' from wheat that go in the microwave and as lots of people don't like lavender, I make them with or without. I am sure I cannot advertise on here but if any OSers want one then PM me and I will let you know how to 'make' one
