I keep a box in my car boot all year round both for break downs and in case I come across an accident. It's just a cardboard tomato box from L1dl. Keeps it all neat and tidy and can be removed with one hand if the need arises.

First aid kit (kept up to date)
    Fold up hazard triangle
Blanket (in it's own bag to keep it clean)
    Small bottle of water
Rain ponchos - 2 in a pack from the pound shop
Little pack of hand wipes and a couple of cleaning cloths
Glow sticks - the crack-and-shake kind
    Torch

We have a massive plastic box with a lid in the garage for our paper and cardboard - as anything that is burnable is put in there. For our coal we have a big 'Titan' coal bunker

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/500kg-Plastic-Coal-bunker-Green/dp/B005PMZOE0/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1341231399&sr=8-13

and DH made a big log store basically it's a big old shed with a concrete floor and all of our wood goes in there. For kindling I keep about five bags just stacked up on a shelf in the garage, which is about enough really as I don't use a huge amount of kindling to get the fire going - I am a bit mean in that respect as the spaniel has a good habit of picking up little sticks when she is out on her walks over the field so we use those as kindling as well.
Cat, Dogs and the Horses are our fag and beer money :D

Good idea the rain poncho's. I saw them in asda (1 for 97p) and thought about picking one up but didn't really have a reason to do so,kicking myself now.

Thanks for the link, kat - have wanted some for years, so have ordered a pair - not bad for less than £4 delivered! :j

We're in a real mess here, am an avid reader of hoarder thread on here (to give you an idea of how bad I mean!), trying to get to grips with the mess, but as I chuck out something to the tip or CS I will buy or make something for my winter prep. :D

Some of the things I will do early in September so I don't miss the boat are:
    • Get new rug/runner for the hallway
    • Put up fleeces to line the curtains
    • Get new winter coats for those of us who need them
    • Sort out all woollies (may do during summer hols)
    • Make draught excluders for external doors
    • Start stocks of ambient groceries & non-perishable groceries (start during summer hols again)

I got a rain poncho from one of the pound shops, not tried it yet but it will do for emergencies - will keep in my handbag/car.

    A xo

I got them years ago as was heading to a music festival - naturally it didn't rain then!
Mostly they're in the boot on the offchance I have to change a tyre - no point getting soaked through as well.

I'm still trying to empty my under-the-counter freezer. It's quite small but I can't believe how much I can fit in there! I'm now on my summer break but, hopefully, by mid-August it will be emptied, defrosted and well on its way tobeing properly restocked. Once I return from my holiday, I intend to try out three new recipes per week and potentially have twelve new types of meal. I'm not the best or even the keenest of cooks and am in danger of putting myself off my stand-bys (any kind of soup, tomato pasta sauce, pizza, curry, stew, chilli and cottage pie). I'll need to have a good look at some of the recommendations that have been made.

I take public transport and try to prepare for all eventualities.

A lot of my winter preparations for last winter are fine for this winter - the snow shovels were never used, the water has been rotated and replaced. The 'are you ok?' chain for texting/calling colleagues in case of hazardous journeys home needs updating to account for people leaving/on long-term leave. The winter box at work has been brought home unused but gave me real peace of mind last year, especially when Hurricane Bawbag had us wondering whether we'd be stranded at work again. Nearer winter I'll take it back - slipper socks, black tracksuit bottoms and PJ top, change of underwear, sample sizes of my can't-do-without skincare, toothpaste and brush, prescription medicine etc. The worst that can happen is that I won't need it!

    I still need to:

    · Get the boiler serviced

    · Sort through winter clothes.

    · Buy warmer coat, some PJs, a couple of new fleeces.

    · Get some warmer, practical tops for work.

    · Get a flask for warm drink.

    · Restock winter medication.

    · Look out for special offers on batteries.

    · Build up stock of skincare essentials, tampons etc

    · Think about Christmas preparations (just THINKING about it – things I’d like to make and what I'd need)

My word, you are all so organised!

But it is only 2nd July folks. Enjoy the Summer, such as it is, and chill out a bit, September/October surely would be time enough for all this forward planning!

But whatever floats your boats I suppose!
