I got some cheap fleeces from Ikea and they had tassles along the edge, I tied them onto my curtain rings so they still open and shut easily and I can remove them for washing or as weather gets warmer. I havent bothered yet though as its actually been really chilly most evenings here and rain, well lets not even mention that!
What a good idea! I've got ikea fleeces pinned to the bedroom curtains which are already lined. It was supposed to be a temporary fix then I found that they were helping to keep the early morning light out. (Notice that I didn't say sunlight!:() So it looks like they'll become a permanent feature!

My mum has been to go outdoors today and got me a camping stove and some fuel cans. So that solves the powercut predicament!

Along with a lot of other people we've had flooding in our street today due to the terrible storms. I hope that no one has been badly affected by them.
I have to say though, with the talks of potential power cuts I was helped by the thought that I knew where the torches flasks etc were kept and that I remembered to fill a flask with hot water just in case. These things don't always happen in winter...

I only used my Yaktrax once last year but am SOOOOOOOOO glad I bought them. They will last for years and I am sure I will use them many times in the future. I have had cheaper versions in the past, which I have had more use from because of the weather, and can't say they are any better or worse. ANY ice grips are better than none!!!

I looked on the Ike@ website and it says that the cheap fleeces are not available at ANY of the stores I looked at.... looked at london, south and midlands... very disappointing... suspect that if I actually went there, they would have them but definately NOT worth making a special trip.

major winter prep here is to sort the car out, line curtains with ike@ or otherwise, rug for kitchen (or preferable refloor the kitchen), sort those damn pipes out in outhouse for WM - regulars to this thread will know I have had the WM freeze up 2 years on the trot now :( Very depressing to know that it will probably happen again :'(((

Stash more WATER!!!!! Water is my biggest goal this year - I want a really good stash.

Lastly a big sack of brown rice and a big sack of beans/lentils of some sort in case of emergencies ;)

Frugal I couldn't find the fleeces in my store a few weeks back either. I'm hoping they'll be out in force in the autumn. I hope so! I have four in the living room for our knees when we're cold but I want a couple for the girls beds. One to have as a toasty sheet and another to put on top of their duvet in case they're chilly. I saw Asda had them for £2.89 though so might buy a couple of them for the bed throw and hold out a bit longer for the Ikea ones for the sheets.

Ice grips are on my list too. I'll have to prioritise and get them in a few months pay as other things needed but definitely want some as I walk everywhere now.

Stocking up on water is on my list too. I had never thought of it until I read it elsewhere but it's such an obvious need and can go wrong very easily.

    Why are you stashing water?

You've reminded me about batteries again and especially for torches just in case of powercuts though I do have tealights and candles...still thinking about the camping stove and fuel cans...batteries would be good to keep at least radio going for some entertainment and an possibly news of what's going on...

I have four flasks of various sizes.
