Preparing for winter III

Hi - I've been reading this thread and can someone clarify that you can put fleece blankets up on your curtains and if yes, how? Do you just safety pin them somehow to the curtain lining or attach the curtain hooks to the fleece somehow - many thanks0

Yes, fleeces behind the curtains. It's a toasty lining, trapping the cold from getting into the house. Safety pin them, velcro them, tacking stitch them by hand - duct tape (as I have done in the past
) Whatever you want to do but can't go wrong with safety pins

I love the safety pin idea as the curtains I have are lovely and I don't want to have fleece on them all the year around. Plus I can't sew, though velcro would work too.0 -

I go for the safety pin approach. I put the safety pin through the fleece near the edge and then put the pin through the curtain hook points on the curtains (so effectively they become curtain hooks) and it works great. I don't attach the fleece to the curtain in any other way so they just hang thereMy curtains downstairs required two fleeces per curtain so I used a safety pin half way down & one at the bottom to hold them together.
Some of my winter preps are being useful in a way I wasn't expecting. My daughter had an accident at the weekend while at Guide camp and dislocated and fractured her kneecap  Her knee was put back but she is now in plaster from toe to hip until she can go back to the hospital on Friday for a follow up ultra sound to see how bad the damage to her tendons is (gala melon for a knee anyone _pale_). She was discharge yesterday after they managed to get the pain under control so she is currently sat in her bed propped up with pillows/quilts, using a pillow to elevate her leg, one of the winter fleeces to sit on (more comfortable than just a sheet) and more raising the sides of the pillow to stop the cast rolling, and another over her when she's feeling chilly instead of a heavy blanket/quiltIf it wasn't for this thread I wouldn't have so many in lol Daughter is up and about on crutches, and I'm making sure she moves around on a regular basis to prevent bed sores etc but to know that she's comfy and not being 'scratched' by the sheets/in pain means I can concentrate on doing other things without having to hover over her constantly. Although there are moments when I regret giving her a whistle so she can get my attention :rotfl:

Oh no, hope the knee isn't too damaged

I have hung a fleece over a tension rod, very snug to window but of course you can't "open" it without taking the whole thing down. Might be ok in some rooms that are used less?Bossymoo

Oh Nicki sending positive healing vibes and cyber hugs to your daughter, poor kid nothing more frustrating that a teenager who suddenly has mobility problems. Thick but soft bedsocks might help to ensure he toes keep warm as well - I know I found that years ago even on hot days my toes would be freezing when in cast and things handy for winter storecupboard
What is it with fleeces how come we survived without them as they have soooooooo many uses, you just cannot have to many......says me who still needs to get them to line her curtains although there are about 10 in living room for snuggling and have not been put away so far this year although today is so hot I doubt they will be used..........Need to get back to getting finances under control now kin kid at uni as savings are zilch

PAH, I got some of the tinned potatoes, surprised at how large the tins are, so going to try them and hopefully get more. Also got their cheap dried mash to try...(mention it on the toughy thread but you may have missed it.)
Nicki, so sorry about your DD, I broke my knee many years ago and was horrified when they said the cast would be from thigh to ankle. Will she be able to walk on it? I know I wasn't allowed but very frustrating.0 -
Who has a "powercut box"? I have one prepared for last winter - it was great! 2 torches, battieries, tea lights & holders, votives........all I wanted was a power cut!:rotfl:but I've just checked it & its ready for the power failure when it arrives!
I love receiving biscuits as christmas gifts cos the tins come in handy when you need things in a hurry & you have them organised. I have another full of my collection of Yankee candles & tarts. At least I'll have light & a nice smelling house!0 -
I've been meaning to fleece line our curtains since we moved here 4 yrs ago!!!
Do you us fleece from the roll (By the metre stuff) or blankets? What im trying to ask is - whats the most cost effective! TYDFW Nerd #awaiting number - Proud to be dealing with my debts!
Dont cry because it's over, smile because it happened.

Lolly, I look out for offers on fleece blankets, I don't know how much a roll would cost, I think Fuddle might as I know she was looking into it. The blankets are more cost effective for me as I probably wouldn't make up a fleece roll.
Pinkmami, I like the idea of a "powercut" box, I know I have a torch somewhere but can never remember where I put it!0
