I am pretty sure I remember Corbin (thru someone else) mentioning a seriously bad spell of weather and urging us all to be prepared for it.... Not only did it not happen, it was a very mild winter in many ways!

Even so, I would rather be prepared than not :)

This is what I was thinking of

He doesn't give much away that you don't have to pay for but from what Kittie says he is pretty good
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

Lidl have the Branston baked beans 4 packs on today for £1.29. Might be of help to someone.

On HUKD yesterday, Asda have them for £1 and I got four 4-packs this evening, they didn't have loads on the shelf but they weren't limiting the quantity as far as I could tell. I rarely visit Asda but was passing them anyway on my way to use a £4 off £40 coupon at Sainsburys, which expired today.

Could always get them at Tesco and use Pricecheck to match it, just remenber to put them through the till as a separate transaction, unless you've researched what else is on offer in Asda but full price in Tesco.

I like to have a huge stock of tins in but putting these away, I'm horrified to have run down my back-up stash of tinned tomatoes. I always get these in Home Bargains and haven't been there for several weeks. I feel a stocking-up day looming, HB here I come.

I don't know if they are still there but I was in Morrisons not that long ago and they had chopped and plum tomatoes reduced to 20p a can. Max of 24 cans per customer. There wasn't an end date on the offer that I could see. HTH

yes he is good Maryb, it is obviously a lot of money though and I debated it after trying out just one paid forecast first. I gave it to myself for my birthday but am allowed to send it to my family group so it is shared by six of us and has saved us loads via trip arrangements, sporting events etc. I have no idea about the general tone of winter as yet but july is generally yuk

I have ordered my tonne of wood pellets next week, based on pc`s charts so fingers crossed that they arrive in the dry as we have to shift them all

Personally I don`t have anything left to do, we have enough in re food, throws etc. I so hope that we have a decent august and autumn or we`ll all be so weak and pale going into winter

Well my preps have come to a halt. We are down to our last £5 and don't get paid til Thursday. Though we are supposed to be getting £100 tomorrow off a friend. No more stockpiling or anything til july.

I've been looking at radiators for the dining room (no heating In there ATM) and really hoping we can make the pennies stretch to buy and fit it next month as we've a lot of stuff to buy between now and November (baby due), including a bigger car and bunk beds for the other 2

Got a fleece here ready to knock up another cover for the dogs bed since he chewed the last one :o and making a hungry caterpillar cushion for a friends baby due in august but that's it on the saving front even though it's not really prep for winter.

I go to bed and listen to the radio and snuggle under the duvet to keep warm but I have now taken to wearing(for decades I haven't needed them)to save on the CH, pyjama's and/or thermals...and as no one visits I sometimes wear them around the house and that also includes thermal socks and/or dressing gown.

Not forgetting cheap jumpers from the charity shop...I like being frugal but as I have said elsewhere I feel like I have returned to the 1950's...

I bought a 13.5 tog duvet on Friday for my new bed (for the new place in the country!). £9.44 in Tesco & reviews are very good. Last Christmas I went to a fayre & bought a huge soft fleecy type blanket for £18 & it it soooo toasty! It can be used on the bed or snuggling on the sofa (made sure it watches my decor!). Can't wait for snow and cold nights so I can use my stove!
  • Hi Guys,

I must say it's been amazing that this forum didn't die out this winter despite it being sooo mild!
:T Maybe we're in for a harsh one this winter?

Must say summer has been miserable so far and it's mo wonder so many of us are thinking of preparing for winter again.
    :(

I've been thinking of making a draught excluder for my front door and have been hunting for a nice pattern. There seem to be loads out there but some are not very pretty.

I came across this one (search on amazon for "Doggie Draught Excluder Sewing Pattern") sorry can't post links as still a newbie!

but unfortunately missed it on ebay. I've managed to find out that it came from the
    1st February 2011 edition of Woman's Weekly.

Do any of you kind souls out there know where I could get my hands on a copy, it looks just lovely! I'd happily accept a scanned version if anyone has a copy and wants to hold on to their original.

    Many thanks in advance,

Doe women's weekly magazine have a website? Often recipes are held online, maybe they have a repository of patterns too?
