Well, another item added to my winter prep list - dig ALL bedding out from under the bed and either air or wash it. Some of it didn't get used the year just gone and I ought to air it properly. Also, I need to do the same with the sleeping bags which are also under the bed.

  • Hi bossymoo,

I had a wee look and they do have a facebook site and a website. The website has loads of recipes but I can't see any craft patterns.

    Thanks :)

    Hi Guys,

I must say it's been amazing that this forum didn't die out this winter despite it being sooo mild!
:T Maybe we're in for a harsh one this winter?

Must say summer has been miserable so far and it's mo wonder so many of us are thinking of preparing for winter again.
    :(

I've been thinking of making a draught excluder for my front door and have been hunting for a nice pattern. There seem to be loads out there but some are not very pretty.

I came across this one (search on amazon for "Doggie Draught Excluder Sewing Pattern") sorry can't post links as still a newbie!

but unfortunately missed it on ebay. I've managed to find out that it came from the
    1st February 2011 edition of Woman's Weekly.

Do any of you kind souls out there know where I could get my hands on a copy, it looks just lovely! I'd happily accept a scanned version if anyone has a copy and wants to hold on to their original.

    Many thanks in advance,

    the_apprentice

    Hi there,
I have a 'Doggie Draught Excluder' pattern from WW. It might be the right one. Is it pink with a felt nose and velvet collar with a flower button on?

I have been reading a site with some useful information about 'How to Put Together an Emergency Preparedness Kit'. It is an American article but nothing that doesn't cross over to here.

I thought the kit was useful for me and had a few things I hadn't thought of. Link is here if you might like a look too...

I will have to start thinking about where to make space in my garage for such things, although I already have a good food store just in case. The pet box is great, haven't got many extras in for my cats if the worst happens.

Well my preps have come to a halt. We are down to our last £5 and don't get paid til Thursday. Though we are supposed to be getting £100 tomorrow off a friend. No more stockpiling or anything til july.

I've been looking at radiators for the dining room (no heating In there ATM) and really hoping we can make the pennies stretch to buy and fit it next month as we've a lot of stuff to buy between now and November (baby due), including a bigger car and bunk beds for the other 2

Got a fleece here ready to knock up another cover for the dogs bed since he chewed the last one :o and making a hungry caterpillar cushion for a friends baby due in august but that's it on the saving front even though it's not really prep for winter.

Look on freecycle for bunk beds if you don't already (ok, unlikely to help with bigger car...) - you'll probably want to get new mattresses, but will save on the beds?

Not forgetting cheap jumpers from the charity shop...I like being frugal but as I have said elsewhere I feel like I have returned to the 1950's...
When on holiday in Scotland last summer I realised that the charity shops had thicker, good quality, wool jumpers and cardis! Must be down to the climate. Keep an eye out for them anyone on holiday there this summer;) (Oh, but please leave some for the locals, they really need them!)

I'll see if any come into the charity shops we have a Barnadoes charity shop on the town and all clothes are priced at 99p whatever they are. I saw one day a woman's sheepskin jacket as good as new for...99p.
