Winter prep list for Pigpen
I need to..
*make door curtains for front and back door

*get blinds cut to size and put up in the kitchen
* Boots for everyone
*make draught snakes for back, front and french doors... I have a pattern finally
*make linings for boys room curtains and put up their blind
Have already.
* Started saving for new bedroom windows..
Adding a shopping list.
* curtains tracks for front and back doors
* coal/logs .. in case of dead boilers we WILL have heat!
* snow shovel is a good idea.. might help OH with snowman building!

Hello All
Well we are now coming out of the gale force winds that hit us, and have had our first proper winter and following months in our new house but I have learnt a fair bit now about what needs doing.
Owen is in the process of building a shed so I will start these plans once thats done and all his junk is out of my kitchen!
Upstairs
* Holly has double curtains in her room at present but think this can
change to a blind and thick curtains once Ive decorated.
* Ben needs curtains over his blinds
* I need curtains! as I presently only have nets!
* I need proper carpetting in all the bedrooms and the stairs as we
are still using off cuts in our room and the kids carpet is a bit
gappy round the edges and letting drafts in.
* Must check the boilers water jacket
* Find a way of draft excluding the window on the stairs. It
currently has a blind on it but there's no heating in the hallway
so its freezing.
Downstairs
* Thicker door curtain on the front door as one didnt suffice really
but did help
* Thicker curtains in the living room.
* RUG as laminate is very cold in winter!
* Door curtain for the back door
* Bathroom mats for the floor in the bathroom as that room is
freezing in winter too.
REALLY MUST STOP USING THE GAS FIRE! Dread to think what that bill is. All I know is Im currently paying £60 Gas and £60 electric by direct debit! :eek::eek::eek::eek: So that most definitely needs to come down but it was our first year in the new house.
Although just had my April Bill through for gas and electric which were estimates - so now given in readings and it looks like this
Electric
Sw@lec estimated - £116
After reading - £91.09
Saving £24.91
Gas
Sw@lec estimated - £274 :eek::eek:
After reading - £188.19
Saving £85.81
Total saved - £110.72:money::D:money::D
So by the time the new bills come out in July I should be about £30 in credit with the electric and have £68 to pay on the gas. Not too bad for my frist year ever with a paper bill but Im pretty sure I can get that waaaaaayyyyy down now I know what winter in this house is like :money:Time to find me again0 -

Loan 2 £1683
Total £8601 Was £393020 -

Hello Sammy:)
So glad you have moved house, just turn it into a warm and cosy nest now, for you and your family to face the next winter. The Spring has been bad enough! :eek:Felines are my favourite

Hi PW
Yeah we are in a nice little 3 bed house now - although on top of the mountain so all the gales that Wales had last week we really got a battering. But things are looking up because my veggies get lots of sun and my 4 bags of potatoes are growing nicely - due to bad weather I just checked them and the plants are about 5 inches long but no spuds showing so Ive had to recover them all. Least it all helps the food budget
and yes now I have this year to perfect the cuddleyness of my little nest. Although once Owens shed is built I will be redecorating my house as well so tryign to save pennies for that as inside is a bit 'dated'Time to find me again0 -
It sounds like you are doing well with your veggies and if you can do a bit every month with the re-decorating and weather proofing your house, you should be just about ready when next winter comes.:)
So glad you eventually got your house.:j I'm sure the little ones love it.Felines are my favourite

Hi All, hope everyone is okay!
I spoke to my Mum last night about her forthcoming visit (as usual for 3 weeks in June) and she has agreed that it would be the ideal time for me to book appointments for my chimney to be swept and for a coal and log delivery! I am really pleased as I normally have to wait until I am off work for these things to happen but Mum is happy to be there and feels that she will be doing something useful for me, even if it will be months in advance of next winter!
She will also help me use up/empty the food cupboard and fridge/freezer contents, ready to re-stock with supplies as and when I find them on offer! I guess that means I am already PREPPING FOR WINTER 2012-2013!
