Re-stocking the medicine cabinet sounds like a plan to be getting on with.

It's so cold, sodden and blustery at the moment that it feels like I might as well think about the bits I need to buy now while it's in my mind and try to get some bargains in the 'summer'.

Hello everyone - can I rejoin you?

It's cold again here, raining etc., and feels like we've bypassed summer and gone straight for October!

I used up all the stuff I'd stocked up with, from loo rolls and tinned tomatoes to baby wipes and pasta, so after I've finished a major de-clutter that's going on I'm starting to restock everything gradually.

Next time I'm in town I'll check out our CS in case they've got winter stuff reduced a bit, like BitterAndTwisted mentioned - thanks for that!

Well, the hoover calls, so will pop back later.

    A xo

  • I can't believe how cold it is still, we lit the woodburner again last night and the temperature is starting to drop away again today so it looks as if we'll light it tonight too. I have started a new winter medications box today as I like to have cold/flu cures in store just in case, also hedged my bets and got some antihistamines, just in case we ever get summer!!!!! I shall be reviewing my store cupboard this weekend and sorting out anything that needs using up in the next few months, then start to stock up with new things for next winter - I try to get a couple of extras every week when I do the main shop and build stocks up gradually. Prices seem to go up unendingly these days even the value/everyday things are relatively expensive so I try the £1 shops and seem to be able to get more for my money that way.

My medicine cabinet is running very low .. since dx of T1 diabetes DS3 has had about 6 colds! OH has been snotting for weeks and the 2 babies are snotting sneezing teething coughing and sicking so they are running out of everything.. I also have something wrong with my inner ear or my wisdom teeth or my jaw is dropping out so painkillers are all out too.. I think I have bought shares in boots the last few months.

I got a knitting pattern for a draught snake I am just trying to find time to make a few between knitting baby cardies!

I finally!!! Got the draught tape on the french doors and am having the last 2 bedroom windows and the small ones in the loo and bathroom, replaced in 2 months so have gutted the bathroom and repainted the floor in there.

    Winter prep list for Pigpen

    I need to..

*make door curtains for front and back door
*Draft tape ALL the doors and the remaining 4 non-DG windows..
    * Boots for everyone
*make draught snakes for back, front and french doors... I have a pattern finally :D
*make linings for boys room curtains and put up their blind

    Have already.

    * Started saving for new windows for 2 bedrooms/bathroom/loo.. :D.. ordered.. will be fitted beginning of July :D

    Adding a shopping list.

    * curtains tracks for front and back doors
    * coal/logs .. in case of dead boilers we WILL have heat!
    * snow shovel is a good idea.. might help OH with snowman building!
    * Refill medicine cupboard.. calpol, tixylix, ibuprofen, cocodamol, day/night nurse capsules, anbesol, savlon cream, lip balm, strepsils, vicks sinex, rennies,
    * Battery charger

There's something about preparing for winter that leaves me all snuggly. I don't mind at all thinking about it when we haven't even had any summer yet.

I looked through the medicine cabinet last week and it's ok. We're over running with paracetamol and bought some ibuprofen. I could do with an extra kids calpol and cough syrup. Probably some flu powders too.

We've lived in this house for 3 years now and it still isn't totally snug and draught proof. This summer will be he final push to get things ready for the winter ahead.

    To do:

    bay window curtain track
    living room curtains, lined
    front door curtain track
    front door curtain
    2x fleeces for sofa sitting
    candles and tealights
attach curtain rod to patio door
hang lined curtains at patio door
    blinds x2 for kitchen
    blind/curtains toilet window
bubble wrap toilet window (freezing in there and bubble wrap is great!)
radiator panel for bay window rad
2x rugs for childrens laminate bedroom floor
2x crochet blankets for children's beds
2x crochet children's hats and scarfs
    thermal vests for all
    wellies for youngest
    thick socks for all
winter car box for DH work car
    water resistant trousers for me
pay off as much gas and elect so can go into autumn/winter without being in debt

Fuddle.. It has taken me 7 years to get to this point and there are still things I need to get sorted.. I have the front door and the backdoor curtainless and the french doors draught underneath the foan stuff won't help with.. I am getting the brush things to nail on I think.

If summer ever arrives I am sorting out the loft stuff.. it is being brought out into the garden and sorted there into 4 piles.. bin, ebay charity and keep.. with the odd bit maybe going to school/grandbabies.. I can then look at boarding the loft properly and maybe install a proper loft ladder to make OH feel safe :p

Kitchen blinds are the next job.. I have them.. 2 lots in fact.. but they aren't up!

    lol:rotfl:

I made sure I bought a snow shovel for the winter past but as we didn't have any snow this year it's still sat there with it's label on. Still, one of the list of needs. The way this year is going I'll need it come September!
