Thanks for the reminders about school uniform. DD starts secondary school in September and brought the information booklet home on Friday. ....

She's 11 and in ladies sizes due to her proportions so I'll have to wait until the winter coats come into the shops,

My daughter too. She is in size 10 ladies but has the figure of a child so getting clothes for her is an absolute nightmare. I think that most clothes manufacturers must use the sizes of children in the Far East as an age to size guide for children. Although my daughter is tall she is not the tallest girl in the class or by any means unusual amongst her peer group at school.

Thank you for the M&S uniform offer heads up :)

I've made the door curtain (lol at mid twenties and blazing sun!) I did use the net wire and as you predicted it sagged in the middle. Two tacks in the door later and it's propped up nicely. I've painted them white and are hardly noticeable. The best thing is I can unhook the curtain and put it away on days like today. So a result but only because the door is wooden.

    To do:

    bay window curtain track
    living room curtains, lined
    [STRIKE]front door curtain track
    front door curtain[/STRIKE]
    2x fleeces for kids' beds
    candles and tealights
attach curtain rod to patio door
hang lined curtains at patio door
    blinds x2 for kitchen
    blind/curtains toilet window
bubble wrap toilet window (freezing in there and bubble wrap is great!)
radiator panel for bay window rad
2x rugs for childrens laminate bedroom floor
2x crochet children's hats and scarfs
thermal vests for eldest and me
    wellies for youngest
    [STRIKE]thick socks [/STRIKE]
winter car box for DH work car
    water resistant trousers for me
pay off as much gas and elect so can go into autumn/winter without being in debt

I noticed that in-store on Saturday - I'm going to have to make a list and get buying! The sale usually finishes before the summer holidays.

Glad this thread popped up, it reminded me to check out the coal prices.....not special enough yet so will hold off ordering for a bit longer.

Replied to an add on fre*cycle last month for 15 pallets, the bloke was so pleased to get rid and will ring us next time he has 5 (all I can fit in the car in one go). I've been sawing and sawing (with the jigsaw but only whilst the solar panels are generating - doesn't seem right to chop free wood and it cost in power). We've also had a large apple tree from my uncle, wood from a tree I chopped down when we moved in and a boot full of stuff we managed to gain at the tip last time we went.

Got more wool for a new sofa blanket, just need to start crocheting that...notin this weather though.

Don't need school uniform, DD1 is off to college so no more costly grammar uniform for her, DD2 is just generic black trousers/skirt, white blouse and blazer they supplied last year when they changed logo.

Need to get the chimney swept, will book that sooner rather than later to get it done.

School uniform is a pain... I am so pleased DS2 leaves this year.. his was extortionate. I think I just need to sort trousers/skirts for DD4 and sort everyones shoes and we will be done.. we need a couple of bags too..

Still waiting for my new windows to be constructed

I'm looking forward to winter! I loved reading the winter prep you all did. I lined DS's curtains with fleece & his small room was rather toasty!

This year we'll be in our new home - a cosy renovated cottage on the hillside. Super duper insulation, plenty of logs for stove, new windows & lined curtains & a larder in my new kitchen to store those extras I will need to stock up on. I will also have 2 fridge freezers (well I have 2 now in use) and an extra under the counter freezer full of bread, cos if I get snowed in - I'm well & truly stuck! (here's hoping!)

Please keep posting those little handy hints!
