Oh my gosh Kittie - here in the east it is very dry, chilly, and the rain they keep forecasting on local radio just isn't happening - a bit of drizzle, we've had only one really wet night in weeks.
I'm wondering if it's worth bothering to try growing veg at all. The first seeds are just chitting on kitchen roll indoors but I've not planted anything out yet.
We have plenty of wood in, and the oil heating is still coming on for an hour in the mornings. Brrr...0 -
I could sell you some rain! Every single day we've had sunny spells then sleet/snow/hail0

Kittie I wish I hadn't read that !! Its cold enough up here already ! The day before yesterday was the coldest wind imaginable - weatherman up here said feels like temp of -7, and I was frozen all day. I'm used to the cold and it doesnt bother me usually but that day I spent sat on the stove
I just dont want ANY MORE COLD!

We went about 3 weeks without rain but are back to rain every day again - we are in one of the few parts of England that does not have drought nor anywhere near it, our water supplies are full to over flowing. For us we wish we had less rain, its been to much past few summers, every day during summer for last two years we have had terrible torrential rain, the type you get out in far east Jungles, rain actually can hurt you and flatten you, had quite a few people knocked down by the strength of it, killing off crops as ground so wet and boggy and roots end up rotting as it cannot drain away. Yet temps are higher than they ever have been for a whole summer. One side of my front garden has almost permanent standing water in it - whole side under about 3 ins of water. In between rain we have had wonderful sunny times but sun now giving off its normal heat so its chilly and past week the wind has been so cold, really deep down cold, weather man said wind made it feel like -5 and I can believe . it. If I could I would happy pipe my excess of water to those that need it.
Its pouring at moment and grey and overcast not to chilly apart from when wind blows and boy its then cold, a real winter bite to itNeed to get back to getting finances under control now kin kid at uni as savings are zilch

I do sympathise with you poor sodden, cold ones. It must seem never ending. Twiglet, raintoday is very accurate within a 2 hour timescale and it is showing certain parts of the SE under consistent rain going round and round a low, some getting it and others completely missing it. We are under the other side of it and it is raining constantly here. The rainwater harvesting tank is now 70% full and water butts about 80%
I read about some good drought tips re gardening ie to water very very thoroughly at one time, instead of drips and drabs as that makes the roots go deeper. So those with water butts were advised to water like this before expected rain, in order to make full use of the rainwater. We did that and it made darn good sense too, I think we used about 300 litres of water rwo evenings ago
I had been thinking about getting a few new summer tops but I don`t think I`ll bother now0 -
It's bloomin' freezing! I'm not putting the heating on though, so I'm sitting here in my fleece drinking hot tea by the potful. Could do with some fingerless gloves though.0

It's been feeling rather chilly the last few days and last week we had hail chuck down three days in a row. It's ruddy parky at night as well. Still, there is an upside: the days are getting nice and long, no dusk until 8 o'clock now. That's cheering me up no end but the winter bedding is staying firmly on although I've not had the heating on since about February.
My darling little seedings on the kitchen window-sill are going great guns.0 -
I'm sure that I could grow rice at the bottom of our garden it's so flooded! I have never known it be so wet! and yet there's all this talk of water butts and hosepipe bans.
I suppose that I was watering newly planted things in February... Please, whoever is doing that rain dance give us a break!
Taking the opportunity to mark flooded areas to install better drainage when, and if!, it ever stops. We did have a bit of frozen land during the winter...The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.
Thanks to everyone who contributes to this wonderful forum. I'm very grateful for the guidance and friendliness that I always receive from you.
