Just stocked up for winter with the gel windowsill dehumidifiers as my B & M's had some in for 89p. Found them a godsend this year for our bedrooms.0

Just bumping to say that I've got some of the £2.99 fleeces from Dunelm today. None on display but I'd reserved four last night. Anyway, they couldn't find one set of two but brought out a boxful so I was able to get better colours. HTH someone0

Hi everyone sort of newbie to the preparing to winter 3 thread, well saying that i did have a few posts back in II. I was an avid follower during my mat leave and sort of lost track when i started back work in Nov. Thank you to everyone for all there tips, it certainly saved my a fortune when money was tight!!! Money still is even been back at work but suppose everyones kinda in the same boat!. Im definately going to be following for this winter!! Husband thinks im mad with the stockpiling of salt in the garage! Bought all my deicer in October and put it somewhere "safe" still cannot find it to this day! spend the frosty mornings scraping the car with my Rhianna Cd (sorry Rhianna but you did the job)!! So when I do come accross it Ill be well in advance for next year!!
My first task for this year is to save an buy a chest freezer for the garage (ha maybe when i find the de icer will put it there)!! Did a lot of cooking throughout the winter months and have a reasonable size freezer but was bursting at the seems with baby food ( cheaper making than buying jars) but left only two other drawers so couldnt freese milk bread etc. So this winter Ill hopefully have a shiny new freezer!! (heres hoping anyway)
After reading about electric blankets thats second on the list.
We were reasonable cosy this year with flannelette blankets hot water bottles and fleeces so I have packed all my winter things into a huge container with vacuum bags for the bedding and put in the loft for October time.
I love hearing what worked and what didnt and will be tuning in to here how everyone else got on,
Speak soon xxxxx:D:D:D0 -
A lot of retailers and manufacturers jumped on the bandwagon this year and produced lots of different de-icing products. They are now selling them off - was in Wilkos on Monday and all their salt etc stuff was in a sale, quite a lot of different things. Local hardware shop doing the same, so it might be worth stocking up if there are some bargains.
ps good idea about the cd - I tend to use an old credit card, works well. Just need to be careful not to snag the rubber seal around the window.0 -
I daren't pack my winter 'stuff' away yet... we could still have snow and there's still a good chance of frost until the end of May! but it is nice to see longer days and it is a lot warmer isn't it? Thinking that I can maybe pack the candles away...The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.
Thanks to everyone who contributes to this wonderful forum. I'm very grateful for the guidance and friendliness that I always receive from you.

The risk of sub-zero temps may have gone but there's still the likelihood of night frosts plus some heavy rain and windy weather until May at least. Still, it's nice to see the back of the winter utility bills.
Now that the day-time temps have risen I'm in the process of washing all my winter duvets, blankets, scarves, gloves and whatnot so I can stash them all away until the autumn.
The lengthening days are cheering my up no end.
The absolute god-sends this winter were heavy fleece jackets, thermal socks and my precious leccy blanket. Plus the huge American comforter which went on top of the winter-weight duvet. Really needed in an unheated bedroom.0 -
