Hi, just stumbled across this thread after searching for reasons why my window would break
. Am I right in thinking a double glazed window could shatter on the inside due to the temperature? Its only a small downstairs toilet window but it is absolutely freezing in there, the coldest room in the house.
And about 5cm of snow has fallen since this morning
I really should have found this thread months ago, we live in such a draughty house!:j:T Gorgeous twin girls born 1st Nov 2012 :T:j0 -

No, it would take real sudden extremes of temperature to break glass: like boiling to cold in fractions of a second. I think the glass in double-glazing is toughened but don't quote me on that.
See if you can get some bubble-wrap up and use several layers of it over the pane.0 -
Congratulations Nanny, what lovely news for all of your family and welcome to the little one.
It's been so cold here today that I've had the heating, gas fire and my dressing gown on! (On top of clothes) I just couldn't get warm and find it hard to believe that the house has been draught proofed and bubble-wrapped to the nth degree. Can't explain it but hope that I don't have to do that very often or the heating bill will be a real worry.
Sorry to hear about the wm again Frugal, looks like you are going to have to make it an insulated jacket eh? Did you remember the survival blanket we mentioned last year? I'm keeping one of those ikea lanterns in the cold 'back toilet' and lighting that whenever the temperature drops. It seems to help a bit.
Welcome Cake4brains, if you read back through the thread I'm sure that you'll find some helpful tips but it might be summer before you get through it all!
Would you believe that as I type someone is setting off fireworks nearby? I can understand a bonfire...but fireworks, in these temperatures! I'm off to bed, hot water bottle already in thereSleep tight, and stay warm everyone.
The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.

We've got 8-10cm/3-4" snow this morning in Suffolk. Thanks to this thread I don't need to go anywhere for anything except for walking pup and that will be a pleasure as he has not seen proper snow before and is ecstatic:rotfl:Just got to finish my brekkie and get togged up and we're off.

I went to Mr A yesterday before it got too bad and stocked up on some storecupboard essentials. Really quiet for a Saturday night. Was meant to be going to Choir of the Year in Milton Keynes today but our chorus had to cancel travel plans
I might have to go out in a bit and test just how deep the snow is!"Does it spark joy?" - Marie Kondo

Wel I got the snow I wanted and beautiful it is too. Unfortunately my boiler decided to pack up so been without heating & hot water since 6pm yesterday...not much fun I can tell you especially with my old bones creaking. Still , I will appreciate it much more when it is back on and no more moaning about the cost of running it !
Hurrah, the man has just arrived to fix it..hopefully.:jYou live..You learn.:)0 -
