Got it going but its packed up again - i've put an elec radiator in there and if it does the job, I will have to keep it on low until the bad weather passes  Hate to think of the cost
Don't know if this will be of any help, but when the pipes going into the tank in the attic froze years ago, my mum put a light bulb near them, not a huge amount of heat but enough to stop it happening again. Just have the flex running down to a plug in the room and switch on when necessary. If this is feasible for you, may be a cheaper option.A smile costs little but creates much0 -
Here no snow what we have had all day is rain, but when the rain hits anything instantly it turns into ice - hubby didn't use car for work today as he got a lift in and back and when we went out about 1pm to go to shops car was totally covered in ice, yet he had checked it at 11am when he came home, even started engine, but then it was dry and sunny. There are icicles everywhere, its so weird, all ice not wet from rain, got to admit I don't think I have ever seen this usually its to mild or it snows. We must just be at the in between stage. Even the road becomes icy if a car doesn't go over it for a few mins. They had forecast snow for us even as late as this morning but sadly now saying rain only continuing..........my family also think I must be mad spending so much time and money on preparing for snow that I thought would come. I just keep pointing out well unlikely not to get snow in future years so at least all ready for it.
Been out and redone birds water bowl a dozen times for as fast as I remove the ice and refill its freezing up. Didn't realise till I went to put out more fat balls that we were out of them, so bought more for them.
Not fair I wanted a nice layer of snow ( I know not good for most people, but I wouldn't have complained if it just snowed over my house and garden

got about 3 inches here so far. Love love love it.
Out on the sledges with the kids earlier - everyone fully kitted out in warm waterproof gear. In my silk thermal vest, cashmere jumper and down jacket I was toasty - angora socks and alpaca ear warmers too. Natural fibres really are so warm and cosy.
all the curtains are pulled and we are snug - might light the fire later but warm enough without. Wish I had a bit more milk as used lots making hot choc for the nieghbourhood kids earlier but other than that its all goodPeople seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

We're having new windows fitted in our rented house on tuesday and the ll chose friday to take down wooden boards in the bay window, leaving, wait for it, a massive gap with patches of DAYLIGHT visible and draughts that actually blow your hair about!!!! I have blocked up with plastic bags and bubble wrap but the temp is not going beyond 10 degrees in there and there is snow 3 in deep outdoors. any ideas for how to improve things until tues would be really welcome, tia x0

Can you tack curtains to the window surrounds - make like a quilt plastic/bubble wrap/curtains or sheets) repeat maybe 3 times - or just hang a heavy curtain or two over the door into LR if you can use another room until then. If you have any house plants I would move them out of there as they don't like temps like these. Also cardboard is a good insulator if you have any and its big enough to go over the gaps, then the above. Can't think what else at moment, someone else will I am sure

thank you prepareathome the builder left just a dustsheet over the window so I will try cardboard as thats the only stuff I've got in the house atm and try to get some free bubble wrap from somewhere tomorrow: do supermarkets use it?!for tonight, luckily we have another couple of rooms to use and a leccy blanket!0

Someone on here on another thread was saying supermarkets usually have it in their fruit and veg boxes and if you ask they will let you have it for free.
Great you have some cardboard to use.
