It looks like the wind is building up down here too. Nothing compared to last week but enough to get already broken fence wobbling around. Best go and secure that somehow just incase - OH didnt do anything last week!

  • Another glorious day today here in Scotland temp up at 8 degrees and sunny. Bit windy through the night but as it was blowing from the west it didn't hit my windows so heard nothing :)
  • Beautiful sunny day here although a bit cooler than it has been last few dull days 8C now instead of the 11C we have had, guess the cloud cover kept the heat in but have to say a sunny chilly day in winter to me is one of the best days there is.
Need to get back to getting finances under control now kin kid at uni as savings are zilch

it's beautiful and sunny today 7C with a realfeel of 1C , not too windy thankfully though it was a bit last night

my daughters room was starting to feel a bit damp so last night i had her sleep on the sofa and i used the dehumidifier in her room all night on econ 7 (would shudder to think how much it would cost during the day!) what a result i had, i didn't collect all that much water, well not as much as i'd have expected however the humidity went down by 6% and the temp went UP by 3C and that was overnight!

i think i shall make a point to use the dehumidifier in each of our rooms once every 2 weeks or so til spring just to keep things drier. does anyone else find that their room feels weird and the air smells different after using the dehumidifier for several hours? i don't like the way it makes me feel that's why i had her sleep in the living room (plus it's quite loud)

hope everyone is well and tied down just in case of more strong winds :p

I thought it was just my very old dehumidifier making the air smell funny, but yes I get that too
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

that might be a good idea for any older ones but mine has just been purchased and has made the odd smell to the air (feels kinda weird too, can't explain it) and it's only been used 4 times...

i can't find much about it by googling other than it might be leftover oil from the manufacturing process, though i must say it doesn't smell industrial at all, just, hmm odd and the room, i don't like being in it when it's running, it feels weird BUT it does work quite well

I have decided that my bubble wrap will remain in place permanently as my house can be cold in the summer - and I've noticed such a difference since it has been bubble wrapped-
    1. it is perfectly cosy
    2. it gives a certain amount of privacy/security
    3. I can still see all I want too thro' it
    4. saves on cleaning windows.
I'm hopefully ready for any cold snap which may venture this way.

  • This morning was much colder than it's been for a while and was a bit of a shock to the system, especially as I had to wait for ages at the station!

My winter prep has been paying off for me this week as I have been just swamped at work. Without the encouragement I got on here I'd have had takeaway food or convenience food all week. I've eaten spinach soup, mushroom soup, chilli and cottage pie and, looking at the freezer, you still wouldn't think I'd taken anything out of it.

My mother came over for dinner at fairly short notice and so I got the M&S meal for a tenner on the way home. I still have half the dessert (profiteroles) to enjoy over the weekend and the wine for some other time too :-)
