  • greenbee, don`t you find that bamboo takes ages longer to dry? I love the stuff but only bought a little because of the drying factor

Does anyone else get a shock if they wear microfleece? I leave dh to switch everything off at night after I stand up as sitting in my dressing gown gives me a shock afterwards

I have a tight wedding ring and a swollen joint so tried to get it off last night . There is no which way it will move, oil, vaseline, dental floss and all and now I will wait 2 weeks before trying again as I tried too hard and made my finger swell more. I am quietly cutting some foods out in the hope that my finger will lose some weight. I am not having it cut off, no way, it has been on my finger for 41 years but I was stupid not thinking about getting it resized years ago. Honestly my fingers were never going to remain what they were at 22. If there was any incentive for me to lose weight it is that, it is quite scary having a potentially restrictive band that I cannot move

Another vote here for slipper boots (they cover that draughty bit around the ankle!), brushed cotton (I'm old enough to remember them being called winceyette!) pyjamas, and I was thinking 'what a good idea to buy a spare dressing gown (dark would be a good idea as OH bought mine for me and it's white!) then I thought 'why, don't I just 'borrow' his as he only wears it if he gets up during the night?' Another money saving tip, and his is thicker than mine;):D
I'm with you on the wardrobe against the radiator thing too. I'm sitting in a draught here as OH has emptied a cupboard as part of our 'office renovations' and heaped up a load of books and wood near the doorway so that I can't close it... rolls eyes!
I used to work for a 'very careful' employer who wouldn't let us have the heating on unless there was white on the ground:eek: I'm now applying that rule to thermal vest wearing... it's such a luxury when you don't wear them all of the time...:):):)
Keep warm everyone and I'm going to search Tango scarves now, sounds very intriguing!

our first dg window was suppossed to be fitted today but its been delayed til tomorrow - booooo. Then once that is in I can make a blind for the window. Goodbye 1 cm wide gaps and howling winds in my kitchen. Can't believe how excited I am about a window but we have been saving and saving to get replicas of the original wooden windows made

Another minus 7 morning, lovely sun. I like this weather. I love the sound of purple sheepskin boots :) Is too warm in here to wear nice cosy pyjamas, I always end up taking them off for cool cotton ones. Same with a gorgeous cream wool dressinggown. But I keep them in case of hospital visits (cheery wee sod, me) :)

Kittie keep a close eye on your finger. This happened to my late mother and we had to rush her to a jewellers early one Saturday morning to get her ring cut off - it suddenly went tighter and frightened her. Hers had been on a similar length of time to yours. She was only without it for a week as the jeweller made it bigger for her.

the thermals are the viscose type bamboo rather than linen type so dry quickly and go in the TD on low (well, like fleece, they don't admit to it, but they're fine in there). I prefer the linen type, which dries much as cotton and hemp. I don't find it a major problem, although at this time of year the condensation probably adds to the layer of ice on the inside of the window :p

they are these ones http://www.celtic-sheepskin.co.uk/footwear/sheepskin-boots/celt-sheepskin-boots/ not cheap but ethical, durable, comfy and last for ages. I did very well out of their sale this year too... Lots of nice tops and socks at bargain prices :D

I only get a shock from it if I don't use conditioner and/or I dry it in the tumble drier.

A few years ago (about 15 now - not long after we got married) I rubbed my hands raw with rubber reins when I went riding. My finger got quite swollen - the throbbing pain woke me up in the night and I could see, even in the dim light, that my finger was turning black so my DH cut my wedding ring off. I didn't fancy losing my finger. He had to do the same towards the end of my first pregnancy when my fingers swelled.
  • I whipped off my cosy fleece PJ bottoms last night which I'm wearing as house-trousers and nearly gave myself a heart-attack with the static. I'm sure if the light had been off it would have been like a firework display. It's the thermal undies that are doing it, I reckon. And they are not coming off. Not till spring has arrived. Nope.

Another hooray for the old granny-style slipper-boots. I got some on special from Lidl a couple of winters ago and they're as warm as toast. Still, I live on my own and no-one sees them, so I just don't care.

I saw a rather fetching leopard-print onesie in Peacocks this afternoon and I was sorely tempted. Very sorely, not being a fleece dressing-gown owner. I had a feel of some gowns in Sainsbugs sale at Christmas and they were soooooo soft and lovely. I resisted, silly me.

I'm really rather cross with the energy companies. All this modest price-drop business just feels like a load of window-dressing to me. The price reductions won't come in until the worst of winter is over I hope). And they're only dropping them because this winter hasn't been as harsh as the last two so far, so no-one's buying enough. Grrrrrrrrr!

I always suffer with static from fleecy clothes but really suffer when it's frosty/snowy, I had an acrylic jumper on yesterday for about an hour before the shocks drove me crazy and I had to change......I've got very fine hair too so it makes it stand on end......whilst I love the cold and frosty mornings I could do without the static.
