I am so happy - for the first time in 10 years my house is warm - with very little heat on - so must have eventually got the heat retaining thing going. Last year I got house insulated and it did make a difference - this year I have bubble wrapped all my windows / doors / cracks in floorboards etc and I have two sets of lined curtains on all the windows - thanks to chari ty shops buys,I am over the moon with how cosy my house is - last year I was crying some days I was so cold. I know so far this winter we have not had the really low temps that we had last year but I just know it's warmer - there is no chill factor in the house now. Stay warm everyone.

That's Brilliant, its great when all your preparations work and you can feel the difference, well done you :money:

So pleased to hear that you are snug at home now Beanrua. Well worth all of the effort eh?:j
I'm trying to figure a temporary solution... We were fine (if old fashioned looking:o) last winter. This summer we have put a door through from the hall to the kitchen (which does work a lot better) and removed a radiator from that wall. What a difference it makes to the temperature! You can feel it getting progressively colder on the handrail as you go downstairs. (We also took the 'old-fashioned' velvet curtain from the front door when we decorated:eek:) I know that OH will object to putting a curtain rail back up on the 'new' paintwork and a temporary shower curtain pole would probably fall down each time someone came through. I wondered if anyone else had any ideas please. It has shown us that we'll need to put a radiator back in the hall eventually, even if we can only fit a small one. (New CH planned for next summer's project) All ideas welcome:)

rather ironic too given where you live, i'm with you, i want snow too but at this point i'd appreciate it if anything other than a light dusting held off til the 21st, or the late evening of the 20th, my daughter and i are going to the edinburgh christmas village like we do every year on the 19th and will be staying over at a travelodge room i got for a tenner this summer so won't be back til the evening of the 20th... but after that....

I'd prefer it to wait until after I've been up for Christmas and come back again...
