mardy- yes Morningside does think its posh (all furcoat and no knickers was what they used to say!) mind Leith was getting its share of gentrification I seem to remember but it was a long time ago. I did one day supply teacing in a Leith school and it was run like a military college but probably had to be!

    :rotfl:Probably!

I just can't get warm today (have some days like that due to medical condition) & the heating's been on nearly all day (and the house isn't cold) - it's me:(

I made some soup earlier which warmed my up for a short time & I've been for a bath which usually does the trick and put on about 3 extra layers ...... but I've only been out 1/2 an hour and I'm frozen again.

No snow here still:) was a bit crunchy this morning & cold & damp.

Think the flannelette sheets & pillows will be going on tomorrow when I change the bed :)

Rising - drink warm drinks to keep your core temperature up (personally I like spicy teas), and also try sitting with a hot water bottle to help keep warm.

Ohhh yes they are Fru :D - I just need a body sized one!:rotfl:(I had them in my slippers earlier :o and work a treat there too!)

Think I may put my electric blanket on  (survived the whole of last winter without it and it's been on twice already this year and it's not been nearly as cold!) and get tucked up in there shortly.

I expect you froze your brain cells... You have to remember to heat them up before they get too cold! I frequently have the same problem when I'm working.

Got to try out my new snow tyres today - they're fabby! No skidding or anything.

It was snowing HEAVILY here but dh had booked his car in to get his snow tyres on so we had to go out, got to the end of the road and there was no snow! How does that work!!!

So pleased to hear that you are snug at home now Beanrua. Well worth all of the effort eh?:j
I'm trying to figure a temporary solution... We were fine (if old fashioned looking:o) last winter. This summer we have put a door through from the hall to the kitchen (which does work a lot better) and removed a radiator from that wall. What a difference it makes to the temperature! You can feel it getting progressively colder on the handrail as you go downstairs. (We also took the 'old-fashioned' velvet curtain from the front door when we decorated:eek:) I know that OH will object to putting a curtain rail back up on the 'new' paintwork and a temporary shower curtain pole would probably fall down each time someone came through. I wondered if anyone else had any ideas please. It has shown us that we'll need to put a radiator back in the hall eventually, even if we can only fit a small one. (New CH planned for next summer's project) All ideas welcome:)
Have been thinking about this quite a bit to-day and I have to say that I would be inclined to try a telescopic shower curtain pole some are stronger than others. I have one up at the back of a door with a very heavy curtain on it and it has only fallen down twice and that's because I stood on the curtain. What about some candles - a certain amount of heat from them. I've just finished hanging a heavy chenille curtain between my kitchen and hall and quite pleased with the results. My house is fast becoming like a fabric odyssey - draped with brocades and velvets etc - all from charity shops. I hang curtains over existing curtains with shower curtain rings - saves taking the curtains off etc etc - can be done in minutes.
Although we have had very little snow I have had the 'snowed in' mentality for 3 months now as I still have no car and I always associate not being able to drive with being snowed in. Friends are rallying round offering to collect family members from airports etc which is great. Only difficulty I have is trip to airport on boxing Day morning at 5.30am - no-one has offered to do that one yet!!!! Although to be fair I have been offered a car to take them to airport myself and that is brilliant - I am truly grateful. People are overall very kind and generous.
rising - thinking of you and hoping you get some warmth into them bones soon.

Thanks beanrua. I might give a shower pole a try. I can always close it once he's out at work or back in, iyswim! Brilliant idea with the shower curtain rings! I actually have some spares from the last shower curtain I bought. Going to add a fleece to the back of some curtains that I've just put up in our 'office' today. (Short and unlined, but not covering the radiator below which the previous lined ones did!) Think that I'll do it with safety pins and shower curtain rings... good job it's facing our back garden! Thanks a lot!:T
PS. Might try a lantern burning in the hall too, will add to the festive look eh?;)
