Yes but the shortest day is 21st December, and then the days start getting longer again :T although it won't be very noticeable to start with.
And agree, winter is going to drag its heels I think! Roll on March!!!0 -

Good idea. We can all exchange tips on keeping cool, share thrifty home made ice lolly recipes and spread the word when we encounter sources of cheap patio furniture, sun lotion or bug repellent. And just in case it gets too hot to go out even in the shade, we'd better all stock up on toilet roll tooFreddie Starr Ate My Signature

Just an update re: spare room.
I've bought a fleece blanket, hot water bottle this time one with a custom cover with 51% angel, 49% !!!!! which my sister would like lol and a cheap fan heater all from B and M in Dudley.
I've replaced the curtains with a thicker pair so it will keep out the draft.
My sister has even invested in one of those all in one blankets you can wear as she knew it would be cold in our house lol!0 -
It's maybe a bit late on in prepping now but I had to share my new socks with you all (not literally, you wouldn't all fit!), found them in the big garden centre where OH and I were buying a tree, they are Heat Holders and they are the warmest socks I've ever had the pleasure of putting my feet into. :j
Not cheap at £6.99 a pair but soooo worth it. I have always suffered with cold feet and my two-sock approach has been flagging of late (although that could be due to all the holes in my well used pairs).
The inside feels like cotton wool and warms you up instantly. I've worn them in shoes but they have a grippy pattern on the bottom so are good 'slipper socks' for indoors too. There were kids ones there too.
It's possible someone's already posted about them in a previous prepping thread but I can't remember seeing them mentioned.
Anyone else seen these socks anywhere, they look fab, and I could do with some really warm socks, since my feet are always freezing!

Preppers good evening
Long time no see. Just wanted to say thanks for whoever said put duvets under your bottom sheet. I've done this on our bed and DS2's and it is so much warmer (I have to chuck the hottie out after 30 minutes which is unheard of!) DS3 sleeps on fleece blankets anyhow and DS1 is hot enough on his memory foam mattress.
It is harder keeping the heat off all day with the kids home from school. DS3 did ask yesterday when we could have the heating on like normal again. I am wondering if I'm being a bit too mean with it as even with the fire and the AGA on it was really cold by 4pm.
Condensation is really bad this year, especially upstairs, I wonder if it has anything to do with us insulating the loft rafters. I know some people have humidifiers. Are they expensive to run and are they noisy?
Happy Christmas to you all, keep warm and safe. The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0 -
