Kittie - thank a million for that calculation - yes it does add up BUT as Im paying £65 pm for electric and last year added £40 for the coal - I sould be OK and heaven knows Im much MUCH cosier this year because of all the preps I have done with the help of all you lovely people. The dehumidifier has been a revelation and I cant think why I didnt get one years ago. What a bargain for £11 plus petrol to Cambs.(£16 ish?)
I still feel like rubbish - all fever-y but I just know Id be totally rubbish if I hadnt got this lot under control!!debt free 2021 at current DMP rate[/COLOR] (probably be in an old peoples home by then)0 -
WRT dehumidifiers - we have an economy 7 tarriff and pay 5.5p/unit on our cheap rate. That makes running a dehumidifier overnight much cheaper. I'm much happier having the water *removed* than spread around the house.0

OK I agree to share but everyone (thats you too, lurkers!) has to post this evening. This is my favourite thread and I want lots of interesting replies to read this evening :rotfl:
Thanks, Frugal. Sorry, I'm an evening late...was pretty pooped by last night, and it's so hard to press buttons on a keyboard with a whisky & coke in my hand . Even harder when the said whisky & coke has been downedprepareathome wrote: »Oh lucky you, I wish we had some, but I know I better be careful of what I wish for - can see us being hit by the most awful blizzards now. Still the white would cheer the place up rather than the awful grey everything is now, even the trees in their autumn colours look grey in the light we are having at the moment.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooo! I'm reasonably happy with mild and can even put up with the grey to some extent if I get the occasional yellow ball stuff, like today. Mind, I break up from work on 22nd Dec so any time after that it can snow and keep snowing...then I want the white stuff to disappear on Jan 1st in time for me going back to work. And, if it's not too much to ask, can I also have spring start ...ooohhh....let's say Jan 3rd?!?:p
I had condensation on the outside of everyone of my windows this morning. I thought it was inside at first, and looked closer as there were loads of snail trails . For a HORRIBLE moment, I thought they were inside . Luckily, they weren't! I remember reading somewhere on this thread that condensation outside is a good thing. Hope so!
I'm going to have to ring Np0wer on Monday. Why are these companies incompetent? I rang at the end of Sept with a reading as the price was increasing 1st oct and I refuse to have an estimated bill. I rang last week with an updated reading as I'm now due a bill. I checked that they still had my 30th Sept reading. Said bill duly arrived today....have they taken my 30th Sept reading into account? That's right, No! They've estimated it, and naturally it's in their favour . I'm also due a £40 reduction for paying by quarterly direct debit, and is that on the bill? You're right again...No!
Read your bill carefully, folks. Don't trust them an inch...
Apart from that, no significant winter prep going on, though may sweep up some leaves tomorrow. No sabotage by kitten this week either....think he's growing up a bit

Snowing here today-- we have an inch on the ground and we are expecting more overnight. Temp is about 1C. Woodstove is burning as we speak.
How do you fancy having guest, one lovely thriftkitten whom loves to clean and 2 arguementative darling daughters for a couple of weeks, the sound of the snow and your wood burning stove has me drooling:jThriftkitten

[ any advice re the incontinent dog would be great, but I fear I have exhausted all options.

Quick question (hope you don't mind) but are your dogs female and speyed?
If they are then a simple hormone supplement can stop incontinence0 -

Hi and thanks for replying, yes they are both spayed, female pugs aged 9 and 10, so getting on in pug years, over the last 2 years they have both had a Pyometria and so I'm sure that has played a part.... I love them dearly and they are spoilt rotten, however I sometimes find myself in such despair that I wonder how much longer I can take it, the kitchen smells so bad, and I have tried everything I can think of. Re homing them is NOT an option as they are old and our duty to see them through as they are part of our family, but wish there was something I could do, will mention this to the vet next week and see what he thinks, thanks for letting me know xx:oThriftkitten
