Preparing for winter III

Hi everyone, delurking for the first time in a while - rarely get chance to read properly, never mind post!
Rather behind with winter prep, but hope to crack on tomorrow.
Still need to:
Sort curtain and fixings for front door
Paint new trim on side door
Make 2 or 3 draught excluders
Do emergency box for car & buy low-temp screenwash
Stock up more on essential toiletries and ambient food supplies
Batch cook various things for quick teas (to minimise the time spent in my freezing cold kitchen!)
Buy a few more items of warmer clothing for me & DH
Buy runner for hallway (lino floor)
The garden will have to do for now - too damp to do anything except a bit of pruning. Just hope my Christmas spuds don't end up deep-frozen before Christmas! :rotfl:
Garage needs a big sort out, partly to get another big plastic box in to store tinned food, bottles of squash, jars of coffee, etc. - anything rodent-proof as we sometimes get fieldmice and the odd vole or rat nosying about!
Must read/post more often to keep my motivation going!Hope you're all doing ok with your preparations.

Hello everyone, sorry I've been MIA.

Things have been really busy, lots of winter prep, friends visiting and work done. I'll fill u in on the Momentous Joyous long awaited, hassle filled event tomorrow:T
Relax, Breathe, Love 2014 Challenges:Cross Stitch Cafe Challenger 23. Frugal Living Challenger. No buying cleaning products. I used MSE advice to reduce my car insurance from 550 to 325!! & paid it off in full!!!0 -
For the peeps with incontinent/naughty hounds - neat vinegar and neat vodka (cheapy stuff) get rid of the smell and will kill and germs.
My last few females were all on propalin syrup from the vets. This is good as you can reduce the drops to see how few you can dose with to get the desired effect. It takes a couple of weeks to get into the system and stop the wetting though. Our current girlie can`t have these as they give her the screaming runs, she has incurin tablets, she started off on two per day and we found that one and a half stops it but one is not enough, again these take a while to get into the system. The propalin is the cheapest. Have a word with your vets and see if they think its worth a try. Both are prescription only atm as they are hormones.
I don`t think that there is anything to stop a dog scent marking, we have a female that does it when outside but not inside, its funny to see, when we first got her she had alsorts of tests done to try and find out the problem - liver/kidneys/cystitis it was a good while before we worked out what she was doing. The vet was baffled too:rotfl:
If you can catch her marking maybe fill a squeezy bottle with water and give her a squirt to try to stop her? If she doesn`t like being squirted she may not do it as often.
HTH
Thankyou for that, I noticed this eve that the chief bed pee'er had a small spot of blood in her urine, probably why this weeks bed wetting has been more than usual, this is a semi frequent occurance, so it's off to the vets tomorrow for some noroclav( anti B's) another anti B shot and slapped with a £60 bill... Oh well will take the opportunity to discuss the peeing again with the vet as it's been a worse problem since pyo spay last year, but in the 5 yrs we have had the chief pee'er it has always happened, just more frequently since the spay.
If I can make it more than 2 days without a wet bed I feel like im on a roll.Thriftkitten

Hi folks,
I would be most interested in seeing how any random Scottish Highlanders are getting on in the winter prep. Make a note of me!
I live in UK, but my prep is aimed at surving and thriving on a horrible budget in the Scottish Highlands!!!!!!#TY[/B] Would be Qaulity MSE Challenge Queen.

Scotland especially the Northermost tip is the coldest in the UK. I believe Braemore is coldest at the moment at -27C as first snows arrived there before anywhere else in the country.#TY[/B] Would be Qaulity MSE Challenge Queen.

Note quite right, Braemore is often the coldest and can be the first to get snow but at the moment it has highs of 8c to 11c this coming week. http://www.weatheronline.co.uk/Scotland/Braemore.htm
-27c is the coldest its been.0
