Hi Flotsam:) Welcome to the thread.
I've sorted out my kitchen cupboards so that the casseole dishes etc are at the front & summer dishes & untensil are at the back.Try to be a rainbow in someone's cloud.0 -
so the long awaited, very stressful, but eventually momentous moment was Lighting our new woodburner for the first time!!:j
did i post here to say that woo! the wood buring stove fitters were coming unexpectidly early at the end of november? i was so excited.:j i thought i did, but possilby the computer ate the post. if so, sorry for going over old ground.
the builders did a great job on Friday (28th Oct) putting in a new lintel and hearth tiles, then plasterer was coming monday and stove fitters tues. Plasterer didnt come till tues...so no stove :0( . And no phone call to say the plans had changed. We got in at 10.15 on the tuesday night after being away since friday and having a very long drive to find All lights on downstairs (even for rooms we'd shut off), plaster splatters over the furniture we couldnt move out (ie, plasterer didnt put down dust sheets), filthy kitchen & dining room floors and sh*t in the toilet. Not a nice homecoming.
Anyway, they have made good and finally finished the job last Thursday. As the plaster is still drying (silly damp weather) and as it needs to be seasoned (like a wok!) we can't have a full fire yet, but did light it friday night for the first time!:j last night we lit another little fire... OH read and i curled up and stitched a little xmas card! bliss!
so that's one huge Prep For Winter weight off our minds! we have warmth and cook-a-bility and even a little light even if the electrics and gas go off. (or if we're now too skint to run the heating!)
Relax, Breathe, Love 2014 Challenges:Cross Stitch Cafe Challenger 23. Frugal Living Challenger. No buying cleaning products. I used MSE advice to reduce my car insurance from 550 to 325!! & paid it off in full!!!0 -
prepareathome wrote: »Sadly it seems as if I still have some preps to do, as eventually received a reply from Coopers of Storford to my email I sent on the 9th Nov. All they did was send me the same email they sent me on the 19th October which shows each of my items has been sent by Hermes ( presume delivery firm) and so order completed. I feel from it they have washed their hands, as far as they are concerned they sent the things and if I haven't received them tough. So did try to phone again and was 39th in queue, and on an 0844 number that was not on, did try the alternative number given on say no to 0870 but all you get is a recorded message saying office hours are closed. So have informed them that if I do not either have a delivery date, actually received my goods or my money back by 1st Dec I will put in a transaction dispute with CC something I have never ever had to do.
.
Contact Hermes http://www.hermes-europe.co.uk/default.html
They are a cut price company and may well take the full time to deliver your items. The Tracking number should have been given to you in the email sent by CoS.
The charge of £5 per delivery for any order means they won't make much profit from the delivery, as the driver will get between £1-£2 and the rest goes to cover the cost of sorting and transporting it around.
Worth an email to Hermes whilst you wait for your 28 days to be up.0 -

Hi Almond,
I don't think I'll be much use Nairn is around 58 miles from me however I'll mention it to everyone I know who travels that way frequently, and I really hope she gets some good news soon.0 -
I know it's not strictly winter yet but...
... I laid in bed Sunday morning and DH made me a cup of coffee and I looked out over the garden and all that hard work we had done throughout the summer and felt both happy in a smug kind of way and satisfied that all that back breaking work has been done.
I said I would post this point, I thought it would be a cold frosty morning, but no it was on a sunny, cool Sunday morning. Maybe when the snow hits I can go into full smug overload on it :rotfl:
I look back and see what we have achieved this year and it is unbelievable it has been nothing short of full on. Allot of things like painting the gates we won't have to do next year - thank goodness - but I just feel that we are both looking after and protecting what we have and that is true OS because leaving things to rot and then having to replace is not.
The garden has been well and truly cut back by DH today while I was at work so that is pretty much the final job being scratched off the list. He is going to cut the lawn tomorrow - the final cut of the year!!Cat, Dogs and the Horses are our fag and beer money:beer:

I hope the dog is found and I am sure nobody minds you posting here - or posting everywhere if it helps - I am too far away to help but hoping dog is found xx
I am so loving my fireI know I bang on about it
but its so lovely to sit in a hot living room knowing that most of what I burn is free - I do top up with coal but thanks to the folks on this thread, I have sourced that MUCH cheaper. Wood comes free from a friend although I have to cut it up myself and do worry that I might saw up my leg/toes.... Not very MSE if I can't work
My next job is to turn off the outside tap but as that involves pulling out the DW, no easy task, then its been left and left but, being in the south, its been quite mild... However, today has been COLD - a real nip in the air and sky full of fog/snow further up (it must be as its so cold at a few thousand feet!) and by the time it reaches here its rain... but not much of it.
I am suspecting we are going to have a sudden change and the lovely mild weather we have had will suddenly change and catch a lot of people out.... Not us Preppers though hey?
I am working a lot this week so have sawn enough wood for the week.... Hoping that the weekend is dry so I can saw next weeks load... not sure how I will saw once the bad weather comes as I have to do it outside (brick shed not really big enough although I prob could sort it out and do it in there IF needs be).
Popped the heating on for 15 mins earlier to take the chill off upstairs as the girls room felt cold - literally only 15 mins though.
Washed my winter coat tonight.... says not to tumble dry but prob will need it tomorrow so might start it off in there on low setting... Fingers crossed its ok
Got a feeling DD2 (aged 5 but is wearing 6,7,8 sized clothes ) might need another winter coat and also needs new school shoes so might have to go shopping on Sunday. OMG I loathe spending money!!!
Also, got RSI in the fingers on my right hand.... suspect its because I have a 'button mouse' on my lappy so might have to spend my overtime this week on a new computer with a mouse pad insteadAnnoying.
Ooooooooooooooooohhhhhh SAD seems to have not kicked in yet this year! That is amazing for me as it usually has taken hold by mid/end October :T Have the odd bad day but thats more to do with losing my Dad in the summer:(:( But mostly I seem to be quite bright. I like to think Dad is sending me strength from up above :A
Hope everybody is keeping warm and well
Fru xx
ps. Discovered today that a friend is a lurker on this board :rotfl: I hope she sees this and starts posting as she follows these threads and the Grabbit board.... Come on T.... Join and be welcomed0 -
Frugal - can you not just get a USB mouse to use with your laptop? I have one and use it most of the time (unless I am actually using my laptop on my lap which isn't a good idea from the point of view of electromagnetic radiation or posture!)0

Hi Almond, I don't live in Nairn but have lots of family and friends there. Is there a Facebook link about it? I could then post it on my FB page for them to see. I really feel for the owner - that is such a shame. x0
