  • Thats a great idea, I miss my airing cupboard so much, we went from a back boiler to a combi a couple of years back and I miss it so much, the drying potential was so good! Well done in utilising this space! And for some more money saving and job saving

It's this site, makes you want to get all prepared AND be thrifty, dont tell anyone but its given me an inner glow. I should at this point say i should get out more but thats not very mse hehehe.

  • Was thinking earlier that i wish the whole house was as warm as the airing cupboard and then realised that I am really not utilising this space at all, its full of carboard boxes that should be in the loft! I have no shelves in there so earlier I fashioned a hanging rail and i put a wash in there hung straight on their hangers. This was at 1.30, just had a feel and i reckon another hour and a half and they'll be dry. Bonus of this is they can then get hung straight into the closet. (another area that's really not utilised well). This site really gets you thinking, its great.

My cupboard's got a little heater at the bottom of it as the boiler's downstairs in the kitchen so I can't actually dry stuff in it (I have tried), but it definitely airs it well. I've got a sock hanger thingy in there to hang stuff from now so the socks etc aren't taking up valuable space on the shelving, and I want to get some hooks so I can hang stuff off the back of the door too. Ideas I found on here, so I can't take the credit for them :)

The cover for my mini greenhouse came today & I nipped out in my dressing gown to put it over the frame :o. It fits well, but isn't as strong as the one I got from Wilkinsons that was too narrow :( so I'll look in Wilkinsons next year to see if they do wider ones. I've also had all DS1's birthday presents arrive from Amazon while he was back at mum & dad's helping them - they need the bungalow roof re-tiling but that meant getting all the stuff out of the loft first... He'll be back there in a couple of weeks to help put it back again!

Will be getting a bag ready for the car this year. I do try to avoid going out in it when its bad but do need to be prepared just in case. Wind up torch is a good one, would never have thought of that.

No its good to stay in!! And its great its given you an inner glow!!! I would like one of them!!

Thats good!! We like the 0 spend!!!

MUCH cheaper!!! I was paying £6 per 10k bag at the garage and can get it delivered from the coal merchant for £7.50 for 25k!!! :o

I have yet to source cheaper logs but my neighbour can get me as many free pallets (old and broken ones) as I can burn but I have to cut them up :D

  • Well, a big step for me today .... I've changed the bed and put the 7.5 tog duvet on:eek: - not too bad, I usually manage to last with the 4.5 one until November but have been a bit chilly the last few nights.

Still a couple of things to get:

    • Portable/wind up radio
    • Nighttime sunglasses things:o
    • Fleecy pjs (annoyed at myself as was watching some on E*bay and forgot to go & bid & they went for silly money:mad:)
Feeling quite proud of myself :o as I've managed to fix 2 of my toilets yesterday & today. They were both dripping at the water inlet thing which meant the water kept overtopping the overflow pipe which was then dripping out the overflow pipe outside.

I'd noticed it outside a few weeks ago:o (wet bit down the wall) but had been putting off doing anything about it as I didn't know where to start & didn't really want to get a plumber in.

However, bit the bullet yesterday as really needed to sort it before it starts to get really cold and it freezes and .... after many hours searching DIY sites/forums - I've fixed it!:j

Treated myself today to a yankee candle tart holder, it was £4.69 so not sure if I paid over the odds but it is the first one I've seen. I am going to try it out later. Also bought a pair of brushed cotton pillowcases and a fitted sheet for DS's bed, still need some more but that's all they had. It is a local department store, so will pop back in a week or two. Nearly forgot also got me some knee high socks for work, I always wear trousers so a bit of extra warmth comes in handy.

    Happy prepping everyone.
