Not strictly PfW but my forsythia is flowering  Whats that all about? It should flower early in the year, its the first thing that flowers in my garden and gives me hope that spring is on its way. Weird.
Very weird! I must check mine. My forsythia is the first thing to bloom too - signals that I can soon stop worrying about gas bills so will really confuse me if it is blossoming now! :)
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)

I have given up trying to keep up, spending waay too much time on MSE! :o I'm doing well, the wrist is a lot better thanks but lately (self-inflicted cos of being on the laptop too much) the tendon in my arm has flared up so need to back off and rest it a bit. How are you doing ?

Some of my bedding plants are still flowering and there are still a few tomato plants trying to grow little toms

SunnyDay - nothing to do with winter prep really but when I got my new pup I tracked down the best deal I could and then ordered 3 15kg sacks, enough to take him to 9 months when I'll gradually switch him to adult food. I tried him with a small pkt from a petshop first. I might have a bit too much or not quite enough because I only did a rough and ready calculation of his needs, not being sure how big/fast he would grow, but nothing will be wasted.

I got free delivery because of ordering so much, it will be well in date when it's finished, I had the storage space required and now I don't need to think about dogfood for ages. I'm running out of catfood so will be repeating the exercise for that.

Add in the potential of running out over winter and I would say stocking up is a good thing - but do shop around, I rarely use a supplier more than once because I always go for the best deals available at the time and as the food is branded it's the same wherever I get it from.

Oh, and I'm very familiar with soft toy snow

LOL thanks for your reply Lizzie - I`ve just ordered two more sacks and saved quite a bit :D I`ll be at work when it gets delivered though so i`m having it delivered there. Bet the delivery driver will be impressed :o

Its really weird isn`t it, i`ve got pinks back in flower in the back garden, they do look lovely. The forsythia is still all green though.

Rising - let them look!! I am a cold mortal anyway so even a slight drop in temps and I moan it's cold!!

The roses that I cut back in the garden two weeks ago and starting to shoot again, they just think they are in for another round. It will all sht down when the temperatures plummet!!

I swept up the patio and round by the front door. Laid down the old front door mat at the back door lenty of life left in it still (it had a mat there but it was bristles and the dogs didn't like walking on it so swapping them round will make it better for them) I have also laid a new door mat at the front door - and swept up there again after another mountain of leaves piled up!!

I drew some strange looks yesterday when out for my daily shuffle (only about 100 feet up the road so far but it's a start:o) with pooch .... I had on my winter fleece with body warmer over, scarf and hat (it's impossible to get warm when you're going so slow!)

I found a pair of new fingerless gloves (purple & white stripes) but TBH I've never seen the attraction of these as find my fingers get just as cold as the rest of my hands.

I gave them a wash with my other gloves so if anyone would like them, I'd be happy to post them (would be the start of next week before I can get someone to take them to the post office). PM me if you're interested (first come, first served;)).

Wear them over another pair of gloves - They are often sold this way now so you can either wear them on their own or on top of the other pair.

OR, wear them in the house in the evenings :D

If not, I would be more than happy to take them off your hands :rotfl: (scuuuze the pun!)

My pinks are also still flowering!!! Very pretty - i'm going to cut them and pop them in a vase - they smell gorgeous :)

I have fingerless mittens I wear in the house or under gloves when it's really cold outside - and I knitted them myself :T

16C in the middle of the day here and even night time temperatures are going back up to about 10C for at least the next few days so still in 2 layers, not 3.

I've moved my big herb pots into the greenhouse today so I'll have fresh herbs over winter and have rigged up something to keep the greenhouse door attached/easily closed and opened - the mechanism originally supplied was pants :( I've actually got some washing drying on an airer in the greenhouse just now - stuff dries really quickly in there, no wet washing about the house, and the greenhouse is a lean-to type and is just 2 yards from the back door. I'm sure the neighbours regard me as eccentric, but it's free heat and a quick turn around on the washing. :T

  • Thank you, you have made feel so much better about things.:A

I have a really cold kitchen, alley down one side north facing on the front, back door and window, both double glazed, and have fleeced curtains up already ( see I have been paying attention!! ) :rotfl:

Last winter the kitchen was down to 4 which I know is not cold in some parts of the country but i'm in the south, I wondered if a mat might take off some of the chill, but it would need to be washable and not too expensive, all suggestions welcome.

    Thanks

Al*di again (sorry missed it before)

Again from next Thurs - bird food on offer http://www.aldi.co.uk/uk/html/offers/offers_week43Thursday11.htm?WT.z_src=main

Some stuff's not as cheap as Home Bar*gains but if you've not got one, it may be useful (the fatballs are certainly great value)

ETA there are also tubs of 50 fatballs but the 8 packs for 99p work out slightly cheaper if you've something you could stick them in
