hi everyone,
hi lily mae, so sorry to hear of your loss. - i'm new to this thread and can vouch for people's friendliness and the fact they talk a lot!
happily i felt well enough today to make chutney (glutney from HFWittingstall), and apple/cinnamon jelly and apple/cinnamon/ginger jelly. so the kitchen was nice and warm! the house we moved to this spring has 2 large apple trees, and its a bumber harvest, so i'm doing all i can manage to do to preserve some though freezing, potting or turning into cider!
finally making progress with the stove installation. the bloke was booked to come at 6.00 on tues, but didnt, rebooked for 5.30 yesterday, at 7.00 i gave up waiting! and as i was pulling my boots on to pop out for sultanas, he turned up! so we've got the hearth stones and reclaimed beam to look over
tried to talk to OH about the other measures we could do to keep heat in... and he just keeps banging on about the new stove. grumble. but he did remember he bought some foil foam stuff to back the rads with in the old house, but never got around to it... so i guess that's good in the long run as we'll get the benefit if i can find it and figure out how to do it myself.
definately warmer but only by a few degrees. keep warm everyone and have a good weekend.
- oh, re fingerless gloves to whoever found some but didnt want them... try them for typing if nothing else!Relax, Breathe, Love 2014 Challenges:Cross Stitch Cafe Challenger 23. Frugal Living Challenger. No buying cleaning products. I used MSE advice to reduce my car insurance from 550 to 325!! & paid it off in full!!!0 -
Rainy-days, I have just bought a coat a little similar to that, but longer, from QVC. It's from the centigrade range.

I wore it down the school on Tuesday to collect my son but it was too warm for me, I was sweating! I'm hoping it will therefore be very warm for the very cold weather. It feels very lightweight but is very warm.
ETA This is a shorter one like yours, £10 cheaper than mine, too:

I have finally got round to fixing the broken curtain rail in the sitting room.My lined curtains are now up.It makes quite a difference as they're French door windows.
I'd put off doing it for ages as I thought that I wouldn't manage...:o
I'm going to get my winter duvet on the bed this weekend as well.0 -
rising_from_the_ashes wrote: »OK, I'm now confused:o I thought that you shouldn't cover vents in the house as they're there to air the place and stop damp?
Don't know what sort others have, but I have 2 different vents on the sitting room window & bedroom windows - one that can be opened & closed for ventilation (trickle vents) & the other that I don't know how it works but supposedly opens overnight as you breathe out moisture to keep the house from getting damp (auto vents?)... I know we had a problem with cold in DS1's bedroom the first winter we were in this house and realised he hadn't shut the opening & shutting vent. Some interesting info about the vents here http://www.double-glazing-forum.com/topics.aspx?ID=34
Saying that & I do know why I need them, but having looked at my auto vents since the thriftyone and *miaomiao* posted, and there's a gap in the window frame below the housing of the vent, which has a hefty draft coming through.0 -
have finally ordered my wellies.. should be here one day during next week
gonna be putting the curtain and curtain pole up at the front door oveer the weekend..Sealed pot challenger # 10

I think it was an invite to a party held by a lady by the name of Ann, initial S, who wanted to market clothes that would not be practical outside in winter :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:"Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass...it's about learning how to dance in the rain." ~ Vivian Greene0

Rainy-Days wrote: »I spotted this coat below in Monsoon on Wednesday and I so debated about buying it. It would be ideal for me for work but to be honest £90.00 (shop price £95.00 online price) seems a bit steep to me does anybody know of anything similar at all??

It's a lovely coat but have you checked out sports direct as they have a Karrimor down one in at £64.99. Now that would be really warm and down doesn't go "clumpy" like polyester filled ones from my experience:)0
