I'm thinking of just doing a DNA test, or now waiting to see if the CSA contact me.

You won't be able to do a dna test without also getting a sample from the child. Would the mother allow that?
  • They paid for another DNA test but wont even pay half towards mine. I've made some effort. I can see her pulling out that's why, I can't afford to throw money away.

If I called the CSA and told them my details incase a girl gets in touch with them regarding me, would this protect me from arrears in anyway?

A little update for all. I have contacted her mum, spoke to her mum and dad, both understand where I am coming from. The child is a little boy.

I asked for them to split the dna 50/50 with me, they said no as they already had one with someone else, I'm not sure she just slept with 2 people.

I was told they do not want my money, and because of the situation they wouldn't want to put me through hell.

I'm thinking of just doing a DNA test, or now waiting to see if the CSA contact me.

For example, if I leave it, and the CSA contact me in 1 year time, will I have to pay a year of back payments? As I am not on the birth certificate, I may be on her benefit claims as they needed a name, but that's all she knows.

I'd just like to know my righst in terms of back payments etc.

Yes I was stupid, I am not hiding behind anything, thanks!

It seems you all have a misconception about how things work.
    1) At present you are worrying over nothing, a case has not been opened so there are no arrears
    2) When or if you get the magic brown envelope, then there is a section that you complete if you have reason to beleive the csa cannot assume paternity.
    3) For your own peace of mind you may wish to know if the child is yours or not and want to have some involvement later on in life, after all, suppose you have a girl with your current partner and years to come, your son and daughter unknowingly become involved  shocking but it would not be the 1st occurance.
    4) The parents may not want/need your money but the PWC may feel differently about the situation
    5) If you have the dna test done via the csa, you do not have to pay up front, but they do add their markup on the cost which is then included in the arrears if it is proven you are the father.
  • Thanks guys and DUTR great help.

So basically until i receive a letter from them they can't put me in arrears?

I guess arrears would start if I ignored their letters? (Which I wouldn't) Do they always put things into writing? or can they call you?

Sorry for all the questions, and thanks again!

Haven't there been cases reported on here where the letter has been sent to a wrong address and the CSA has started building up arrears because the father didn't respond?

Can't the father check with the CSA whether the mother has opened a case?

No, don't ignore any letters, chances are you may get a friday afternoon case, I had a letter right address wrong person , the letter was from the csa, a few weeks later a letter was adressed to me, the start date would have been less than a week ahead of recieving the letter, it was 5 or 6 months before I started having to contribute, by then I had racked up arrears but had that added to my weekly payment, but during the time of recieving the letter I was putting away 15% net , it could be years before the PWC gets in touch with the csa which them maybe cmec.

He can open a case himself :j

Who can ask for an arrangement using the CSA?

Applications to the CSA can be made by:
    • the parent or person with the main day to-day care of the child, or
    • the parent without the main day to-day care of the child,
  • Thanks guys. just puts me into a Dilemma now of what to do, sit and wait or not. I wont pay all of the DNA test, if they're sure I am the dad they should pay half in my opinion.

    I just don't want arrears!

    Thanks!
