Real Life MMD: Should the cash go to my kids or pay off debt?

Scenario one - £50 of dad's money to children, £50 of mum's money to credit card
Scenario two - £50 to mum's money to children, £50 of dad's money to credit card
Total family income is higher after the maintenance payments so the children will be better off either way.
The credit card has to be paid off via total family income in either scenario
The children get bought what is necessary but now without recourse to the credit card - eventually the credit card is paid off. Everyone happy. Not Rachmaninov

Don't feel guilty; go ahead and get your credit card paid off using the money from the children's father.
You would have used the maintenance money had your former husband been contributing towards their upkeep.
The money is money and forms your total income and if you can afford to clear your credit card with the TOTAL cash you receive then do it! His payments now form part of YOUR income to use at your discretion.0 -
Pay off the debt, spend the saved interest on the kids.
This is a team effort you're all in it together. You borrowed money on their behalf, don't feel guilty paying it back, as a family unit you'll all benefit from being without the debt, financially and mentally.0 -
Can't understand the attitude of some people. Were the kids supposed to starve/go barefoot or naked untill the money startedcoming in?
Of course you should pay of your debts - they wouldn't have arisen if he had paid up promptly0 -
