Huh? What?
I prefer not to leave any margin for error. Direct links all the way.
Each to his own, but I would not expect someone to click a link and save a file just because I posted it, at least with a link to a download page the option is there for someone to read about a programme and then decide if they want to download it0 -

Yeah....and then they click on the wrong link and end up with dodgy software. I've seen it happen enough times.
As to reading about whether they will decide to download it.....what are you talking?
We are giving them instructions, not asking them if they want to read about the software.
I don't leave the room for error, as I want to be sure that they have the correct program.0 -
It should still be their choice as to whether they download anything. Yes, they are being asked to install something as part of ongoing advice but if they don't want to accept it, that is their choice0

The "Official" mbam download link is this one:
http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam-download.php
From that link you'll be directed to one of many "official" mirrors for the download.
Often on the download pages there are seperate advertisements for "Recommended Downloads". Users often click these prominent links, mistakingly thinking it is the download they require.
It's an issue they (Malwarebytes) are aware of and do try to work with the sites hosting the download to avoid any confusion.0 -

What are you talking? If they don't want to follow the advice, then they can ignore the post altogether.
I can assure you, the OP was much happier not having to guess at which link was the right one and I'm much happier to know he has the right software.0 -

For me, this is true and I am hugely grateful to all of you.
It is me that is techie nerdwoman, but then I have other talents and will translate several European languages for you, if you need :-), as well as being a pretty decent cook, needlewoman. moneysaver, writer, DIYer in things construction and masonry, lateral thinking and much else....so we all can do things. But this putah is fouling its own nest and the problem is mine.
Again I say I value ALL your help and kindness. Repeatedly, a number of you are coming back with advice, which I endeavour to follow.
Please don't squabble over differing approaches. I'm sure all work well for different people with differing levels of knowledge.
Now, I've done the Malware again, from santer's link. Quick scan said 'Not all infected files could be removed' and that it would close down and restart to remove the rest. The re-start has happened{I'm typing this!], but nothing else.
Shall I just go and run malware again?CAP[UK]for FREE EXPERT DEBT &BUDGET HELP:
