Goodness me...why is this thread still going?

Let's begin to un-install some of the gunk.

    Download, install and run CCleaner
Go to Tools > Start up and click on the save to text file button in the bottom right hand corner. Save the text file to your Desktop. Go to Tools > Uninstall and repeat the exercise.
Copy and paste the contents of both of the .txt files in your reply.

If I remember correctly, QuickTime is the Apple version of Windows Media Player.
You can disable is from starting up at boot without any problems.
The same goes for Skype, MSN and all the Adobe stuff (Reader, ARM, etc).
If you open the Adobe Reader and go into Help (I think) and select check for updates.
It might be worth waiting to do that until some of the other stuff has been checked.

Hmm, rmg1 - just went to Adobe, hit Check for Updates. Up comes a black page, no. 0/0. with the usual Done at bottom.
Tried to remove the old 9.4 from my start column, but msg comes up - sth about can't do, 'The patch package could not be opened. Verify that it exists, rtn to provider to seek help. etc.etc.
So, Adobe 9.4.6 remains on my add/remove programs list....

Can you download and install MalWareBytes?
If so, go to the update tab and hit the update button, then run a full scan.
Post the results on here (from the text file it produces) after you've fixed everything it comes up with.

    Hello again rmg1 -
The malwarebytes stopped running part-way through - at 2468 errors..
Will try again later - have to pop to surgery, then await friend to help jump-start car - new battery, but suddenly find i have to unclick radio[blaupunkt]fascia to turn it off. Thought I had done so, but maybe not sufficiently..

BUT, joy of joys - as the error list was populating, I had my old toolbars and headings set up as before!
Now how can I retain these?
Shall I just get rid of google chrome and this blotchy grey type?...esp as closed says it uses up more ram.

If Malwarebytes removes it, it's Malware. You have too many dodgy Toolbars installed.

Right - have finished the malwarebytes thing. It says '2470 registry errors and tweaks were remaining and your Junk Status was caution.'
Junk shows on 1st yellow bar.
    Security Status reads Good.
    What next?
Also, top toolbar reads: Windows Internet Explorer provided by Yahoo Alongside that is a smaller[4cm]window, with yahoo to its right.
Below is my most used toolbar - google, with all sorts of quick hit things to the right of the search window, like weather, both emails, directions, wiki etc. I have never put them there knowingly, wouldn't know how.
    #################
There is an option to buy sth to fix all the errors.
Also, forgive me rpt'g ? re: google chrome. Shall I get rid of it?
