You cannot just present an electricity bill in the small claims court to prove that the heaters do not meet their claims. You would need proper scientific evidence, which will not be cheap.
Everyones's electricity bills have risen, you can't possibly prove how much of this was due to Fischer's overpriced heaters.
If your aunt wants to go ahead then she has my full support, but it will be a long and potentially expensive process.

The grounds in the Small claims court would not be that the bills had increased, as indeed the Fischer heaters will use the same as any other electrical heater.

Having myself taken action in a small claims court, it is not intimidating and the judge can take a view who is telling the truth. After all the salesman's defence will not be that they do produce any more heat, but that the Aunt had misunderstood.

Trading Standards would offer advice, and the VISA path might work.

I have showed your replies to my aunt and she is absolutely furious that this bloke who sold her this 1.9KW Fischer heater did so by deception. Its always going to be her word against his. Can anyone tell me how she goes about getting her money back, she paid by Visa and she now wants a refund. Her electricity bills have gone up by almost 30% since she has been using this heater.

Yvonne465 it would be helpful for others who are contemplating buying these panel heaters if you were able to tell the group how much they cost.

    Ye gods...
An equivalent 2Kw panel heater could be got for about £30. Or less than 2% of that price.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

My aunt paid £1400 for 1.9KW heater.

    - thanks for that Yvonne465
    - let people reading these threads be aware that
    - you can buy six 1.7kW storage heaters for the price of one Fischer non-storage heater

Or how about 15 of these - remote control, cheaper when running than the Fischer heater, 100% efficient, doesn't take up any valuable floor space, metal elements, latest air movement technology, real fire simulation, can save energy by turning off, helps negate undesirable 'eddy' effect, latest safety devices with thermal cutout meeting all regulations set by the government, zero deadly carbon monoxide emissions, etc etc

Agreed Graham, you could even get 35 of these 0-2300 watters with a 3 year warranty for £30 each.

  • I think most people are missing the obvious here nomatter what heating solution you use or prefer you should first spend your money on insulating your house properly. Then fit a system that is easily controlled. Fischer heaters are one that offers this with wireless controllers so each heater can indivually controlled which is where the savings can be made but paying over a thousand pound a heater. How many happy customers are there? Would like to hear from them not some trying to explain science on heat loss. I am a electrician and my mother in law wants electric heaters over gas. Already had the sales pitch from a Fischer sales person.

    HiYa Will99,

Ok - no science, you can read what's been writ~large. Like all, that's 100% of all first time posters you like Fischer, and you've had the sales pitch from a Fischer sales person, and, even though your a sparky, you like the idea, tell her to spend £5000. How many happy customers are there ?, no idea, but then I never could consistently get to 100% success rate with a Rubik's Cube.

But why, when standard rate electric heating is about 350% more expensive? All modern electric heaters have thermostatic control (not all wireless), but you'd hardly pay £1000 for them.

You can buy 'plug-in' sophisticated timers with/without remote control for any heater for a few pounds.

If you - as an electrician - are going to be influenced by some owners, who are not interested in the 'science on heat loss' then it is very likely that along will come some more first time posters - like yourself - to confirm how wonderfully the heaters perform.
