I thought it would be less?
    3000w / 220v = 13.6A
    3000w / 240v = 12.5A

Could be wrong, the last time I did physics was 30 years ago! I'm a chippy really, wood and screws.

I agree about the sleeved plugs though.

You are assuming that the 3000w is fixed - it aint!

If we have a nominal 3kW heater for a 240v supply which we connected to a 12v battery, it wouldn't draw 250 amps!!

I question their safety on the 3 kW heater model , it was supplied with a 13 A plug fitted, when I've tested the heater with a meter it seems to be using 3250W (13.54A) While this is not enough to blow the fuse, it is enough to make it very hot!

What *exactly* does the rating plate say?

Until I hear that I'm reserving judgment, however given the extent of the overheating the most likely "defect" was inadequate tightness of the fixed wiring to the wall socket. I would also consider well worn sockets more likely to contribute more to the heating than a new "cheapo" plug.

When was the house wiring last inspected?

I was seriously considering this option of heating, would somebody give me an idea of cost. I know it varies, but if somebody has bought please post price ie paid £4000 3 units for a 2 bed bungalow or £8000 for 6 units in a 3 bed house, don't want to be embarrassed by a salesman if its really out of my price range.

I would suggest reading the above and the phoning the salesman to cancel the appointment and google modern storage heaters.

Welcome to Money Saving Expert. howee & macman are correct, not what you wanted to hear ?, sorry about that but this forum is called Money Saving Expert [text deleted by MSE Forum Team].

If you can even consider paying £1300 each for 1 of these which cost £50 each and then add on the installation costs you really need to read the whole thread [text deleted by MSE Forum Team].

    NOTE01 : Is your home already a newish standard energy-efficient dwelling ?

NOTE02 : I can by 26 of these at full retail and fit them myself, 5 minutes per heater wall mounted 13a supply for the same price you pay for 1 of yours at £1300 and then no doubt pay a couple of hundred pounds or more for installation.

I am new to this site and have spent most of today reading the Forum Pages 1-10 to see about this firm. Unfortunately I am embroiled with them. This could be "War and Peace" so I am going to have to precis.

Have a second home had air-blown system running off E7. Not nice. Spotted Fischer last year - ad in Telegraph. Seemed plausible bearing in mind no gas. Salesman came round. 5 rads £3900 with thermostat for each. Said it would "primarily work off E7", which off course is what we wanted.

Having just paid £900 deposit, Jeff Howell in the Sunday Telegraph did a pretty damning piece on "german heaters". No FFH name mentioned of course. Sought clarification from Fischer, told JH didnt know what he was talking about. Presumed they knew what they were saying. (No I am not naive!)

Had the fit ie no surveyor came. Disaster!! (I could elaborate).

Payment 3 post dated cheques of £1000. Fine.

2 chqs paid. Then JH did another article.

Sought clarification from Fischer on E7 matters. One question. One simple answer.

    No answer came. Stopped cheque.

Now told they are taking me to Court for Breach of Contract. Boss even said they would come to take rads away!

Spoke to original salesman today. Nice guy but was honest with me! I referred him to this Forum!!

Suffice to say considering suing Fischer for mis-selling and defamation of character.

It's not technically incorrect for Fischer [text deleted by MSE Forum Team] to say that that they will 'run off E7'. They can indeed be wired to run off the E7 circuit at E7 rates, as can any electric heater of any kind. But, since they are not true storage heaters, they'll then only produce most of their heat between midnight and 7am, when most people don't want it.

I see that in their latest ads (one in the Sunday Telegraph last week), Fischer have now modified their claim of '40% savings' slightly. The small print below now says 'based on using a Fischer 1.9kW heater instead of a 3.5kW storage heater'. So, you'll only save 40% off your bills, by reducing your heat output by 46%. Or are German economics somehow different?
