Benefits and new partner

OP, do you know whether your daughter's course is full or part time? How many years is it for?0
-
Yes and you get 3 days worth of food and can only claim 3 times. Hardly going to help them for weeks.0
-
She could get her Child benefit changed to weekly payments so they at least have money for food every week.
Inform who ever the landlords are about the change of circumstances and explain rent may be a little bit delayed. Housing Association/council are quite used to this.Be who you are, say what you feel, those who mind don't matter, those who matter don't mind. They say that talking to yourself is a sign of mental illness. So I talk to the cats instead.0 -
Which is it?
If it's a TA course, it's only a couple of hours in college and 2 days placement, so plenty of time to do a part time job too.
If it's a degree then how was she managing to claim IS?
Sorry i am not sure what its really called, i will ask her the weekend.
Its a higher teacher assistant something. She does 3 days at school helping the children in class and one day at college.0 -

I will suggest this. Thankyou0 -
Yes herein lies the problem, hence the suggestion of paid employment for both her and her partner. Desperate times call for desperate measures, perhaps a sofa would do or putting the career aspirations on hold to allow her to provide for her child right now.
If they can find a job then they are fine living where they are. Why are people suggesting she give up her home. The rent and council tax will not be a problem.
The problem is yes they will work, but unfortunately they cant find work.
I asked how the benefits system expect people to manage with no money. yes i will help my daughter out but like i said how do people manage with no one to help put food on the table0 -
This site makes me laugh. I ask a bit of advice and now my daughter is being slated for being honest and managing a difficult situation the wrong way
My grandaughter needs stability. Started school, New partner living at home
I would normally help out more than i can at moment. She wont starve, nor go without electric and gas. Alot of my income is going on hospital visits to birmingham on a regular basis to sleep the night with a very sick 10 year old.
I hope some people never find themselves unemployed, with the best plans in the world you never know whats round the corner. Not everyone has a mega financial buffer0 -

I understand what you are saying, but in this instance it's like a false outgoing. The daughter has obviously been getting both these paid whilst she was an unemployed single Mum. Her partner, also unemployed has now moved in so on that limited income i'm sure most if not all of these bills will be covered again by benefit, so in effect will sort itself out when the new claim is completed and backdated and there will be nothing to pay or maybe a small shortfall.
I thought the OP said she was on a meter in which case gas and electric are important unless you are willing to sit in the dark for a few weeks with everything ni your fridge freezer going off! lol! :rotfl:
and not have a shower which would seriously impend your chances of gaining employment.0 -
Have a look on the thrifty boards on here, probably lots of suggestions, does the little girl get free school dinners? at least she'll have one good meal a day.
Have a look on the directgov.uk site for financial help, there's lots of info on there about crisis loans/budgeting loans etc

Absolutely, reduce outoings and increase incomings as much as possible for 6 months then try again at living independently.
You are not seriously suggesting she ought to ignore paying rent and tax?
6 MONTHS!!!
For the sake of not having any money for a few weeks? Honestly this will be like a massive storm in a teacup, huge inconvenience, not a great start to living together but will be resolved pretty quickly on the grand scheme of things. God it would take me 6 weeks to pack up all my stuff!! lol!
Regarding rent and council tax... Yes I am, anyway it will probably all be sorted by the time she gets a bill anyway.0
