Help !! before war breaks out in my house !!

My 21 yr old daughter has been back with us since March , as she had to move out of her flat for non payment of rent ! she has since found a partime job and has been to loads of interviews and has high hopes of landing another one very soon .
before this job she did try a full time job at Stansted airport but it was impratical , due to timings and expensive fares

we did have a chat a while ago and she agreed to pay us 50 quid a week rent from this fulltime job , as she has a partime job now , she says its not pratical to pay this , which i kinda agree with .
she has said that once she ands another partime job she will pay 50 quid a week .

the probelm im having is my husband who is her stepdad feels that i am going back on my word and giving into her and is being a bit childish and isnt talking to me !!
any advice ??

  • If she's not working full-time then it's not reasonable to expect her to pay all of what you agreed.

Speak to your OH and have him tell you what he thinks is reasonable once he knows what your daughter's take-home pay is.

Sounds like she's trying hard to me. If she hasn't got the money, then she hasn't.
Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.

if it was going to be £50 for full time then ask (sorry, tell) her £25

she cannot expect to get a free ride especially if she is earning

as for OH, stick your tongue out at him and show him who the grown up is!!!

  • Simple.

If her take home pay from the Stanstead job would have been £200 a week and you were going to accept £50 a week for rent; then you were taking a quarter of her wage. If her part time job has a take home of £80 a week then you take £20 off her. So work out what percentage of her full time wage the £50 would be and she can pay that.

How much does she actually earn?

And has she paid off the rent she owes to her ex-LL?

well this week she earnt 88 quid for two days
and yes she has paid her rent , in fact she actuallly got a rebate back as they didnt pay her HB correctly last week , this is what got her evicted , she went through her bank statements and proved that the LHA was wrong .
with this rebate she is paying off what she owes people , which i think is right , but OH thinks her 50 quid rent should come out of this as well !
i disagree as its not earnt income and she is doing the right thing in paying peeps back

  • So is it me in the wrong or the OH ??

  • Suggest to him that if he isn't happy then you will have to support her by paying her rent like you supported him when he was on the dole; suggesting a good £400 a month, plus bills would probably give him a different viewpoint.

Or just tell him one more word or dirty look and you will stop taking any money off her altogether.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.
