Conkers are generally found on the ground in the autumn - they come in hard spikey green cases and are the brown nuts contained within. They come from horse chestnut trees.
The !!!! is the word p r i c k as it seems that this forum sees this as an offensive word but it should be remembered that not all our words are rude.
I know that Lakeland sell a spray that contains horse chestnut juice that you can spray around to deter spiders.0 -
I've seen the middle four letters of 'hot' and 'water' blanked out on a post before! And also seen Charles Dickens censored.
hee hee. The joys of the over enthusiastic profantiy filter.
LG, so sorry to hear about your horse. Very sad.
Good luck on the flat hunting. As others have said, you've not got the pressure of having to move immediately so you can take your time and look around to find the perfect pad!"Does it spark joy?" - Marie Kondo

Thanks for the spider tip Horace, thats the first thing I'm buying on payday!
I finally heard back from the first flat, they want me to go back on Sunday and meet the rest of them so I am going at 5:30... will report. No new ads coming on the site that are worth looking at.

Payday on Monday, will spend some time tomorrow on my spreadsheet and planning the month ahead - got a lot on but hoping I can manage it - I'll find a way!
Had a lovely ride this morning despite it absolutley pouring down with rain, My friend has returned from her trip for Help 4 Heroes where she did a horseback trek accross Mongolia! It didn't sound easy but she had a good experience and raised £8k for charity which is fantastic.
Got a bill for £128 for accounting membership fees, work pay me back but I need to pay it first. Another job for payday!
Off to bed now, going to get to work early tomorrow and spend some time on here catching up on diaries etc as Ive been neglecting it recently and I miss it!Santander 0% £1,529.94

Thanks for the clarification Horace - I thought that about conkers not being around til autumn time. Boo to nature, spiders threaten me all summer until they're at their biggest in September (eek!!) I randomly met a guy that works at London Zoo that told me that it looks like they're out in force in September because a) it's mating season and they're all out looking for a mate and b) because it's mating season, they're at their biggest, so you see more of them! Yikes, Lakeland it is until the first spotting of a conker, then I'll !!!!! it
and leave it by the door.
Until then, I'll also stock up on the conker spray. Actually, I notice Lakeland also sell a net thing to velcro over open windows. I may have to invest in one of those too!
Can't believe it's nearly results time LG. It seems like no time at all since the thread went quiet while you worked your socks off for them. Fingers crossed they've gone the way you deserve them to :A
Fingers crossed for the flat as well. Hope the other flatmates are nice0 -
Can't sleep researching the V* job and praying about it...
Hope I get it..it's just 20 hours a week but still it's a start. High pressure sales but I love sales so I will be very at home. Just lots of studying to do in between on anything and everything...
In the mean time got to stick to budget to make sure I make my £180 to OD on Tuesday
Much love

Off to view the flat in 1 hour, will report back straight away BUT there is an issue with all this that came to light on Friday...
... we got our payslips and I noticed mine was quite a lot less than last month. Well this would be because the sharesave contributions of £150 that I thought had started last month actually started this month. F***. Meaning all the calculations I did on weather I could afford to pay more on a flat were based on a number £150 more than I have. IDIOT. I mean, I'm supposed to be an accountant!
When I get back from the viewing I'll play with my spreadsheet and see how it looks but if I go for this flat (which is £100 more than current) that means altogether I'm doing £250 worse than was previously if I go for this flat. Debt busting will be seriously affected by a £250 dent a month. Is it worth it?
One option I need to look at is weather I can cancel sharesave. It would save me £150 a month but we got a really good option price and if I see it through to maturity there's a good chance I'll make some good money and even if I don't I'm guaranteed to get back what I put it so it's a good way of saving. I'll be debt free when it matures in 3 years time and I'd like to think it'd be a good way to kick start my savings.
ARGH.
I just had visitor in my ex, I went out with him for 18 months when I first moved to London and we've been apart for over 2 years now, but he's starting CIMA so he just came and took all my old books off my hands, he did offer cash but they're not all in date and I was only going to throw them away so he saved me a job, weird seeing him after so long he looked well but no feelings! PHEW!
Friday night was fun, my friend gave me a lift home on his new motorbike! I was terrified but he drove sensibly (I think... couldnt see the speedometer!)
Had a nice run in Hyde Park this morning, saw the Cavalry returning home from their stint on guard at Whitehall which is always a pleasant sight!
Today I have spent money on vegetables and a beer for the England game, football isn't my first choice but my FM loves it so I'll watch it with him.
I'm going to play with my spreadsheet now and see if going to see this flat is actually just a huge waste of time...Santander 0% £1,529.94

Hi LG
Looking forward to your news on the flat!! Hope things all work out the way you want them. Can you not put the sharesave off for a year or is it now or never.
I'm half watching the game but it seems to be getting a bit exciting so must watch it properly.
Take care.

Hi LG,
I often have those moments of realisation, which can be heart wrenching. I hope you manage to work something out that you're happy with.0 -
Hi all,
Well, I had to turn down the flat viewing it was short notice for them which I felt bad for but I spent some time with a calculator and it just can't be done unless I just made minimum payments on debt until I get more money coming in. I'm disapointed that realistically I can't afford to pay anything more than what I pay now and for the area I live in flats in that price range a)don't come up often and b)when they do they're a cardboard box. Although I have a lot of grumbles with the flat it is very big for the area and price - mostly down to the landlady being elderly I think and therefore not up to date on going rates.
So, I'm going to write her nephew (who is our "handyman" and lives downstairs) a note and ask if he could kindly see to some of the smaller tasks that need doing and hopefully that will see us through for a while.
This does make me realise that to afford anything I will be comfortable in I am looking at £100-£200 more per month which I really just don't want to spend on rent even when I am debt free. Maybe that will be the point at which I reconsider the move back home. Who knows.
A positive note - I now owe less than £8,000! I sent a chunk to the credit card earlier and now owe £7,956.61 with another £189.79 to go to the loan and CCard during the month.
The sharesave is binding really unless I cancel it completely and get back the £££ so far which I want to try and avoid as I think I'd regret it in the future to use savings to pay for more expensive rent.
I sent £261.75 to the credit card this am and that now has a round £300 left to pay off so next month that bad boy will be finished!!! YIPPPEEEEE!!!!!!
The NW loan has £4,191.60 left
The PO C Card has £3,275.22 left (both after this months payments)
Following the NW Ccard being paid off from next month. I am then going to call NW and PO and get my direct debts altered to:
NW Loan from £104.79 a month to £150 a month
PO C Card from min payment £85 (this month) to £400 a month
So that'll be paying off £550 a month still and should get rid of the PO C Card before the 0% runs out.
The NW Loan is fixed interest so even if I pay early I still pay the same interest so no point in paying that one first.
I am still sending £120 a month to the online saver for bills and emergencies but that balance was nil till this morning so I'm starting from square one on that again. I need to really try and avoid using it this month.
I have a doctors appointment tomorrow. I can feel 4 or 5 lumps down one side of my neck that I can't on the other. After seeing my friend go through what she did fighting thyroid cancer having felt exactly the same thing I'm getting them checked out to be on the safe side, hopefully the quack will tell me I'm being a hypochondriac!Santander 0% £1,529.94
