Thanks both of you,
Well I followed up with an email apologising again and I told her I'd go shopping for something nice at the weekend rather than rushing to buy something for the sake of it this week and suggesting lunch in the canteen together - no reply yet but could just be busy. Can't tell if she's miffed or not !!Santander 0% £1,529.94

Aw, I know that doesn't feel good, though if it's any help (??!) I expect you are feeling worse about forgetting than she is.
You have a good plan to sort it out and with that extra bit of thinking time you could get her something personal that will show you've thought about her, IYSWIM.Miggy

Hey Miggy,
Yes, I expect you're probably right, I know why I forgot because my old phone had everyone's birthdays in and when it broke I lost everything! We went for lunch together on Friday and she never mentioned or having yesterday off for her birthday or her plans which was unusual but that would have made me remember.. oh well!
I hope so! She's quite easy to buy for as she is SO girly so I'll go and pick her out something niceSantander 0% £1,529.94

Morning gang,
Bagged NSD no2 yesterday and on for another today. Tonight is the commitee meeting and I have a wrap in the fridge to eat for tea before hand and will take a bottle of water from work with me. It doesn't start till 8 so will get a couple of hours of study in before hand.

Yes, I do like that side of it, how the psychologist helps them work out the reason behind it. I think mine was self-esteem mixed with wanting to fit in, I always had problems at school with wanting to fit in, it wasn't till late in school I realised the true friends were the ones who I had looked down on cos the group I was trying to fit in with were "cooler" (They weren't) I'm still friends with the good ones today and I know they'd be the first to support this journey but they're also the ones I haven't had to explain myself to as there's no competitiveness with money.
Blimey, that was a bit of a revelation. Hadn't really thought of it like that before.
Hehe thanks! I hope so too!!!
Yeah I was the same. I got a £2 or 3K benefit rebate when I was 17 and blew it all. Didn't even get driving lessons and a car ....I just wasn't used to money. I'd never had any. Even when I did get high benefits at 15/16 Ma always made me save it all and I never collected it (she always collected it for me) so I never knew how much I had. Never knew what I could afford etc.
So yeah the importance of giving teenagers some money so they get used to it and making them buy their own clothes etc....:T

I guess we can't afford to give ours much so the older ones earn their spending money - DS1 lives with us but is on a full wage so he pays us :T:T and DD is a student so we give her a small allowance but she earns too and that funds her clothes and going out (which is just as well as she spends a lot more on these things than I've ever done!). DS2 is at school and can't get a job so he gets a small allowance and I'm just glad his tastes aren't expensive.
I think it helps them that they earn the money and can pay for themselves, but I don't think they realise how much they will eventually need just to live on. I suppose they are sheltered in that way but no amount of telling them means much as they haven't yet reached that point. It'll come.Miggy

My parents gave me an allowance until I worked part time, then I lived off that money but they still paid for my riding lessons until I started FT work.
I think my parents taught me well and encouraged me to save, what I think I will do with my kids when they are old enough is to teach them about the cost of borrowing its only recently I realised the true cost of borrowing and I think that would have helped put me off credit
Yesterday was another NSD taking me to 3 and today I hope to bag 4 so quite pleased to have gotten 3 in a row this week.
The committee meeting went well and I had my homemade wrap before hand. One of the girl brought krispy kremes to share which was sweet. After the meeting there were 2 left and everyone had gone and left them, so I took them for my flat mate but then I passed the most sorry looking homeless man on the way to the tube and passed them to him - you should have seen his face light up was so sweet!
Found out today things might be changing at work. So, background I am a corporate accountant for the property area of our business, so I sit in property and work on property company accounts but its a corporate role and corpoarte finance pay my salary not property.
They want to centralised all of the accounting roles and want to move me and S - my colleague and senior over to work with corporate finance. Which isn't what I want but I could live with it as the people are generally nice over there. I'd lose a few nice perks that I have from working in property though. And would be taken away from J my AWESOME boss.
Now J, is keen to keep one of us as his junior as his workload is too huge to manage alone and S is too senior for this role so I would love it if he could get it agreed that I could stay here but I dont know.
If we do both move the less complex parts of my role would be farmed out to the admin teams and I'd keep the higher level stuff which is fine by me - as long as they dont see my job as one that can 100% be split out and get rid of me!!! Its all up in the air and the initial meeting isn't till next week but I'm a bit worried about what'll happen. I've only just become really happy at work after my last awful experience working in corporate (luckily theres no chance of going back to that team) so I dont want it to change
However, I am lucky to have a job and as long as I keep it I will make the most of it.Santander 0% £1,529.94

You've just absolutely made my day!
I almost think there should be a law against things being 'up in the air' at work. The uncertainty can be so hard especially if it drags out. I hope it all works out and they let you know fairly soon. From what you've said about your boss I can see it would be great for you to stay working together. (I also feel very sorry for any admin staff who might have to learn parts of your job! Having worked in admin and had my role changed I remember how stressful it was trying to take on things for which I had absolutely no aptitude!)

Just posted on another thread which made me realise how often I agree to do stuff then realise I can't afford it.
I know the budget for the rest of the month is already strectched but purely to please people I have agreed to 2 lunches and drinks after work next week. I hadn't even realised I do this until now.
I need to stop and think before agreeing to stuff if I can actually afford to do it. I think it is far worse to agree then cancel then to just say no from the start - do you agree?
I did turn down 2 theatre trips this week for the next couple of months so it does show I can mange it sometimesSantander 0% £1,529.94
