How often do you wash your hair?

I wash my (fine, blonde, chin length) hair every other day. I do it in the morning though otherwise part way through day two it looks and feels awful and I hate that feeling! the best thing with my hair is to wash it in the morning and then blow dry it. if I straighten it it will stay straight all the next day too, just need to run a brush through it. I dont put any styling products in my hair (mainly because I never use them right but also I found id need to wash it the next day). if I wash it in the evening and dont dry it with a hairdryer it looks greasy in the morning.
I was washing my daughters hair every other day but then decided it only needs washing once or twice a week. shes 5 with fine blonde shoulder length hair. my toddler son rubs food in his hair so obviously better to give that a quick scrub in the bath!!0 -
The question has to be then, why, if after 2 or 3 months of not washing it, it is in the best condition ever, you start washing it again?LittleMissKitty wrote: »Once a week usually, though I'll wash it extra if I'm going out. Occasionally a wear synthetic dreads in my hair and I never wash it with them in. After 2-3 months the dreads come out and my hair is in the best condition ever. I tend to wear it down two days and tie it back for the other 5.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
I wash my hair twice a week and I have shoulder length hair (brunette). I do wash it more if I am stuck in the kitchen at work all day. Yuck!Competition Wins:

Reducing the frequency of shampooing has vastly, vastly improved the condition of my hair, and very occasionally I get five days in a row where the curl holds, no frizz, no tangles and no rewetting. Nowadays (when not lured by the shiny new shampoo bottle) when I re condition but not shampoo I find my hair to be generally less dry, less prone to frizz, and needs rewetting less often with out the ''Hagrid'' look.
Usually after three days of wearing curls down I need either to rewet or consider an updo...but if I rewet it would be with conditioner only.
Personally I couldn't use no shampoo I don't think. I think my scalp would stink, and it does get itchy (If I feel an itch I shampoo that day). That said, the best stuff for my hair that I have used was the no-poo WEN system stuff. When I eventually run out of my large TIGI conditioner bottles I will try wen again.
Do you use any products on your hair? I have to use mousse otherwise it's just a frizzy mess.0 -
I am astonished at the number of people who don't wash their hair every day.
We all wash our hair every day. Three of us have very short hair (me, mrsLA and DS1) and DS2 has very long hair.
i think the thread needs people to edit their sex in. I generally find that:
Women - don't wash their hair every day and will have a bath before bed and go to work sweaty
Men - wash their hair every day and have a shower in the morning because we're not stinking beasts like women. Except tramps; but they don't wash their hair, or wash at all so we don't include them.0 -

yes I do. I've retried mousse recently and find it very drying, so its at the back of the drawer for emergencies. I use a curl cream. Sadly the boots one, which is a great price doesn't work for me at all. I find it sticky. (it works great on DH's hair though). I use frizzease and usually tigi curling cream (in a pump dispenser) which I mix together in my hand. I've used a few others, some are as good and some aren't.There is a better one but its three times the price of the tigi one:eek:, so I make do
. After lots of experimentation I know how many squirts of each work well for me...(six pumps of frizz ease to one pump of tigi, normally I need to goes of this to cover all my hair ....its very long but not very thick). I'd rather use the reasonably expensive products that suit my hair better and wash less often than wash and use cheaper things/mousse which just seems to get my hair drier and drier.
I also often leave normal (not leave on) conditioner in my hair...e.g. today my hair is braided and I didn't want to use the expensive products for hair that is up, so after conditioner washing last night put more conditioner in my hair (avoiding root area other wise it goes dandruffy and itchy and not attractive) and braided it. It will actually stay in braids tomorrow, but I might dunk the ends, add more conditioner and wear it in a shorter plait with longer curly loose ends tomorrow.
edit: my hair is about as curly as ''european'' hair can get, and quite fine...so I really understand frizz! DH's similarly curly hair, but with coarser strands and just thicker is less frizzy.0 -
i normally wash my hair everyday, but its thick and ive just had it cut into a graduated bob which i love, but in order to tame it i use frizz ease serum and if i dont wash it everyday then it looks horrible and feels horrible!!
i didnt wash it this morning, as i wanted an extra half hour in bed, and thought whats the point it was foggy and drizzly out and it would only go curly after straightening when out on the school run!! It feels horrible now though and im itching to go wash it, but ive tied it back all avo since im not going anywhere. I will be washing and intensive conditioning tonight though lol!!!!!!! i could never go more than 2 days without washing it!!!!!!!0 -
I can't get dressed without showering and washing my hair first. I suspect my hair might be in better condition if I didn't wash it as often but I just feel seriously yucky if I'm not squeaky clean.Herman - MP for all!

I wash my hair 2 times a week usually - my hair is very long (nearly down to small of my back) and rather thin. I use Lush solid shampoos and alternate between jumping juniper (good for greasy hair) and squeaky green/karma komba. I then use solid conditioner (jungle) only every 2 or so weeks (otherwise my hair gets greasy fast).
The shampoos are not cheap at £5 each but they last ages (around 80 washes so 6-7p/wash). 2 bars lasts me around a year and a half. Even if you were to wash your hair 3 times a week 2 bars should get you through a year.
OP I would say you are washing your hair way to often and the shampoo is probably too harsh. Your natural oils are over working because of this and causing your hair to become very greasy. Also what the person said about the bedding could be true - we change all of our bedding at the same time though - so washing your hair in the morning could help you also.I am a vegan woman.
