Public Sector. Good or Bad?

Shutting libraries will hardly resolve the country's problems but it would have been easy to not build the new library (the main library is only a 15 minute bus ride away).
I don't disagree with you there. It was probably committed spend before the downturn. I work for one of the more nimble LAs but I know that in some parts of the country changing plans is like turning a supertanker. The crazy thing will be if they need to now close other facilities to pay for it.Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? any "private sector" worker that works purely for public sector, is public sector.
why can these contract cleaners make a profit and still be cheaper than the public sector? because of public sector waste, massive salaries and obscene pensions.
public sector wasters.
I was having a bad day until I read this post.
You see today I had to leave work early as I could barely walk, and I'm unlikely to be fit to go back at least for the rest of this week, I may even have next week off aswell.
But as I've done more than half a day today, I get the rest of the time off that I needed free, no affect on my holiday entitlement, no effect on my flexi time, neither does it go on my sick record. and for the rest of this week at least, I'm happy in the knowledge that you'll happily be paying your taxes towards my wages and pension whilst I stay at home.
This is the life!!![SIZE=-1]To equate judgement and wisdom with occupation is at best . . . insulting.

TBH I am fine with it as it happens in the private sector.
But what they should do is stop the idea that everyone can apply and the job is open to all. (basically stop the red tape as we all know recruitment in the Public sector is very similar to that in the private sector)
Just give it to the person they wan't and save everyone else's time (interviews) Money (travel) and the advertising cost
If a job is genuinely open they should then advertise.
On flexible working, is that not a fairly new thing for the public sector though? I would say the vast majority joined way before flexible working became the norm.
At least 15 in some area I think about 30 so far as I could find out so a vast number of employees would have been employed when fliexi time was already in placeNeeding to lose weight start date 26 December 2011 current loss 60 pound Down. Lots more to go to get into my size 6 jeans0 -

See
But they are in the public sector so that is why
is an odd argument
Does the public sector have low paid or not? the people in the public sector seem to disagree on this?
Also civil service being lower paid on average like for like does not equate to being the lowest paid jobs in the country. Which was the quote I copied.
What would you consider low paid - some are on £15,000 for a 38 week some are on minimum wageNeeding to lose weight start date 26 December 2011 current loss 60 pound Down. Lots more to go to get into my size 6 jeans0 -

Not this old chestnut again....no public sector worker is on minimum hourly wage.
£15,000 isn't that bad when you add on a further 25% to cover the pension cost....that's around £18,750. I know plenty of people on less than that.0 -

Yes they are
you know plenty of people who are on less that £15,000. Less tax, NI and pension payments and thats not much at all.

nb I don't work at a golf course (thank goodness)
So do you feel there's no value in higher education at all or just in your field? (which I'm sure you've mentioned before but can't actually remember atm)0 -

Why are you adding 25%
No there aren't - find me examples.
I'm adding 25% because that's the value of your deferred salary (ie how much your employer has to subsidise your pension by).0
