I had a problem with Barclaycard, and posted about it a week or so ago. My query didn't get answered, but the BT steadfastly refused to go through.

    Nationwide said it should, though.

I have two 'current' credit cards - a Barclaycard I've held for nearly 40 years, and a Santander CC which I got with a 0% BT offer when I opened their current account a couple of years ago. The 0% has now expired. I had an Egg card, now taken over by Barclaycard, the account is closed as I rejected Egg's proposed rate increase and I'm paying the balance with fixed monthly payments. As its statement shows the credit limit is nil and account closed, though a £3.5k balance is still being paid off, should it still be listed as one of my 'existing cards' if I attempt a soft search?

I've had a Nationwide FlexAccount for many years but have never had their credit card. I wonder if visiting the branch is likely to have a different outcome from an online application. I assume the branch would know if a soft search has been done?

I dont personally see a problem here? You've not defaulted on it have you or is that £3.5k a payment arrangement to pay off a debt with a debt collection agency?
  • Thanks Rich, no, never defaulted on any card, and I am not involved with any debt collection agencies. I just wasn't sure if the balance on the closed Egg account should be listed as one of my cards, when it is not 'available credit'. It is obviously not a loan, nor an overdraft, and I don't know how best to explain this on the soft search.

It's still a balance, so would show up as the limit being the balance.
I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂

Agreed yeah a balance, but it doesn't mean he shouldn't apply? The soft search will ask if you have any other credit cards, so I would put it in here. I dont know if it then asks for a balance because when I applied I didn't have any other cards so I just put 'no'
  • soft quote £500 @ 15.9%, thought must be a winner as didn't get the dreaded 19.9% quote.
few seconds later full footprint and REJECTED... grrr!
