Paul Mckenna - I can make you thin - is anyone following this or did it work for you?

Bought the book with CD inside ages ago but never done anything about it but now definitely want to give it a try so I'm gonna put it on when I go to bed tonight - my OH needs to lose some as well although not as much as me!!

Has anyone else followed this and did you lose weight?
Have you kept it off?
Didn't it work for you at all?

Please let me know what you think and/or about your experiences...
You should never call somebody else a nerd or geek because everybody (even YOU !!!) is an
"anorak" about something whether it's trains, computers, football, shoes or celebs :p :rotfl:

I know it's not the same one, but I tried his Instant Confidence book & CD, to help me pass my driving test last year. TBH, I think you have to believe it will work, in order for it to have an impact on you. (I did pass my test, but also had about 4 jars of those 'Kalms' herbal tablets in the weeks leading up to it!!!)
    Good luck. x

  • I tried this about a year ago. I didn't help me lose any weight, as every time I put the CD on I feel asleep
I've been having trouble sleeping lately, and have been looking for the CD so I can get a decent nights kip, but can't find it anywhere
So, it didn't work for what I bought it for, but was fantastic for helpingme sleep ;)

  • If I remember correctly, this system of weight loss is about retraining brain which will in turn retrain your biological functions to accept a more natural rate and intake of food?

If that's right, Mr McKenna has been a bit naughty in claiming it to be his conception as this method of retraining has been well documented and studies for many years. In theory it should work and for many there is not data or reaasoning why it would not however it is not 100% guaranteed for all and does, like all healthy lifestyle options, require a ceratin amount of will power for a few weeks simply down to the fact that we live in a society that is consumer driven and offers quick and easy food stuffs.

I sound like my parents (who I call the Wrinkles) when I say if you only had a certain budget, a certain amount of basic but healthy foods to chose from and was unable to use your car for the shorter everyday journeys, this nation would, by default, average a considerably slimmer waist line. In the developed, modern world, we are comparitively gluttonous.
    Integrity is a dying art!:p

I started doing it last year and lost over a stone. It really worked for me but I stopped following it, and put it all back on. I've just started it again, and lost 3lbs:)

I haven't used this, though I've got it. The reason I bought it was the recommendation of a colleague who used it successfully.

My colleague was VERY sceptical. There was a series on TV about the beginning of 2006 I think and she followed the series, which basically followed the book. She said she spent the time watching the programmes at first saying "this will never work, don't be daft, etc" and even e-mailed the programme's website to claim that it wouldn't work. She's an NHS researcher and well-informed. She was also a complete chocoholic - we used to call her office the chocolate room!

    It worked.

Last time I saw her she had lost over a stone, and more significantly, she was completely indifferent to chocolate. She was both impressed and gobsmacked.

However, she is a very focussed person and accepts that the programme help her get focussed on the issue. Like I said, I've got the CD, was impressed by her results, but still can't get focussed enough to do the daily 45 minutes listening to the CD

I bought the tape from ebay and found it was really good and I lost nearly a stone. I kept thinking it's all inmy head - but so what it worked. - I didn't think about choc and crisps my downfall so I didn't have to think I want it but can't have it.The batteries ran out on the walkman and I stopped listening to it (that's how unmotivated I am!) and regained the weight.

I've bought the CD but as above - I fall asleep so at least it helps me relax - but it has had no effect on any weight loss but I have to say I think I'm asleep! Whereas with the tape - I don't think I went to sleep so although I was relaxed I did still hear it.

What do you have to lose other than the weight? Give it a go - you've made me decide to dig the tape out again.
  • Interestingly, my husband and I have both just finished reading the book. He has listened to the CD twice (and fallen asleep once) but I haven't listened to it at all.

It is all very strange. The first meal I ate, I 'forced' myself to leave some food on my plate, and realised that I was panicking about leaving the 'clean plate club'. However, since then, I have followed his 4 rules and have struggled to finish my meals - in fact, I had to throw half a plate of pasta away yesterday. This was even more scary for me!!

I know I have not been 'hypnotised' by a book, but the arguments in the book about how many people view food/eating meals/being 'full' really struck a cord with me. I listen to my body and decide that I have had enough to eat when my body tells me, not when my plate is empty. And I have stopped worrying that I'd better eat it all otherwise I might be hungry later - because if I am genuinely hungry later, I just EAT SOMETHING!!

Have only been following the rules since Friday, so can't tell you about whether I will lose weight, but I know for a fact I have eaten significantly less today than I normally do - and would normally be sat here now snacking, but I am only going to eat something before bed if I'm really hungry.

Good luck, whatever you decide to do.

I downloaded the CD last year and put it on my Ipod. I listened to it in the evening and it made me fall asleep every time (after I got over getting the giggles at Paul's slightly growly voice when he's trying to get you relaxed). Then he wakes you up by shouting at you at the end!

I watched the TV series 'I Can Make You Slim' or was it Thin? Anyway, from what I saw of that, it was more a case of retraining your mindset of food, and using his hypnotherapy 'tapping' techniques (tapping face/chest/arms) to overcome moments of craving/weakness. He also asks that you use a smaller plate, eat healthily, take exercise and eat food VERY slowly (put your knife and fork down between every mouthful).

Following all his principles it's quite feasible to see that this should aid weightloss, but then in that respect it's just the same as every other diet. While you follow his guidelines it should work, but I imagine you'd have to follow them for life for any weightloss to stay off and cravings to stay gone.

I can't say I found it easy to follow, as I think you have to stay focussed at all time, and I kept forgetting what I was meant to be doing. Perhaps, as the TV show's 'guinea pigs' did, if a whole family were to follow it, then I think it would be more do-able. I didn't lose any weight on it. I'm doing Slimfast now, and that is showing quicker results.
